Something Called Love
Twenty Seven
The Day of Marriage
New Delhi
She was still scared and confused, looking herself as bride. Somehow, she gathered courage and went downstairs to exchange garlands. As they exchanged garlands, she was getting much nervous; she knew that he would not come as he did not know where she was, but still deep down from her heart she wanted him to come, somehow. If dreaming was allowed and if her god ever granted her to ask anything which is impossible, she would ask for him, at that moment. She looked at the door, all the guests have arrived and now that door was opened but no one was coming, she was just hoping for impossible. Nik took her hand in his hand, she left his hand, and she kept looking at the door, incessantly without even blink. After the rituals of garlands were finished, she came back in the room to wait for main ceremony.
Staring at nothing in particular, she was in the corner of the room when she felt someone's presence in the room. She did not turn around as she knew he would never come. She was shocked to see his father there, he was looking at her strangely, she smiled nervously and fake.
'Don't do this.' He said.
'What?'
'You are not happy, geet.'
'I'mā¦'
'I'm your father, you can't lie to me. You are just like your mother, you can't lie easily.'
'You should get your eyes checked, dad. I think I'm the definitions of the words, lie and betrayal.'
'I don't know what have you done and why are you so lifeless but I know one thing, he is the one for you.'
'Dad?'
'I saw him when he came home; he loves you more than anyone in the world.'
'Love?' she smirked bitterly.
'Yes. Geet, you are free. You know what you want, just go and get him. I emotionally blackmailed you, you did so much for us and we wereā¦'
'ā¦don't say that.'
'Geet, my life is over and I know I wasted my life, but don't do this to your life. Do what you want to do. Don't marry this guy, he doesn't love you, all he wants is that to use your talent in work and make money.'
'I know.'
'Still?'
'Compromise. For you dad. For myself...My Life...'
'Now I'm asking you to leave him. Go from here Geet. Run.'
'I won't' she thought.
She was there all lost in him and she saw his brother coming to her with same hatred and anger in his eyes for her father. Somewhere she knew it that after her talk with her father, he would not be pleased and she was right, he was fuming in anger.
'You are provoking her, how could youā¦? You are not going anywhereā¦Everybody is waiting for youā¦' he screamed at his father.
Before he could say something or hit her or her father, she glared at him, bizarrely. She looked at him with same hatred as he did. She saw him for few seconds, and broke the silence.
'Don't take the effort. I will do it. But, remember one thing, I am not doing this for you or your fake prestige. I have my own reasons. Now, get lost from here, don't you dare touch me or my father.' She lied.
She knew it was a lie. She knew that she had no such reasons; she was doing it because she was lost, alone and confused. But, somehow from within she gathered some courage and stopped him for once in her life and it worked. He looked at her for a second and then, at his father, his eyes were pleading her but she was firm now, for her acts, she could not let her brother harm her father, she smiled and went away. Oddly, three of them knew that in some way it was not fit and well, but silence was their best option.
And he left as she had been invited for main ceremony. She was more confused now, but then she could not stop herself. She went to the place and sat beside him, she was still looking at the door endlessly. Somehow, she wanted him, his memories, his eyes, his smile, everything was haunting her and she was still there with him. The priest continued to do his work, she avoided everything. She closed her eyes and he was there in front of him, smiling at her, she smiled. She opened her eyes and she saw nik. She closed her eyes again; she preferred dreams than her worst reality. Soon she felt his hands around her neck, she opened her eyes again, it was nik trying to tie something around her neck, and she thought and smiled at his foolishness.
Soon it was done. She was then no more Miss. Geet Handa. She still did not open her eyes, each and every moment passed with him, the very first meeting, their fights, their work, their best and worst moments, how he made her birthday special, his possessiveness, their dance, his smile and suddenly her face turned pale as she remembered the moment she betrayed him, his accident because of her, his proposal and knowing the truth by some clippings. And suddenly she got up, thinking about something. She immediately calculated in her mind, she knew Maya Gujral would never send it to him, as she already promised her, though promise word was not made for her, but she knew it Maya was a woman with words, she would backstabbed her but she would for sure inform her, she was not coward at all.
'Then who the hell was the person who sent it?' she mentally shouted.
She tried to remember the number when Maan handed her the cell, but she could not remember, there was no name displayed on that, it was some random number, she could not memorize the number. She tried hard to remember something - just something. And then suddenly she remembered something which shook her from the core, when she left from the restaurant, only two persons knew that she was there, Maan and herself.
'Then what the hell was Nik doing there?' she thought.
She remembered the entire conversation, Maan informing her about joke and then how she met Nik, how he got all the fact and then she connected the dots, Maya wanted to involve Nikhil, too. And she got it all. She was shocked at him, because she knew that Nik was a con but he would never used to do something which was not in his 'brave limits' as she knew he was a coward, he had no guts to do something big, all he could do was to backstab someone, he was too coward to accept that.
'Oh! So my dear hubby, you have no idea who I am?' she smiled.

Mumbai
He was still there on the sea shore, after Sameera left, he sat there blankly, staring at the moon, and weeping tears silently. For the first time after he made out the truth, he was even responding, tears were unstoppable, he was, very first time, thinking about the whole fact, till then he never accepted that she did that to him, he never said anything, not even a cry, all he did was show anger, his anger and fury to hide his pain, his wounds, he could not believe that she actually did that, somehow his heart was not accepting this, but clouding by his pain, anger, fury he could not see anything else. He found himself on some endless, aimless path where he did not knew what he wanted, where he was going and why he was walking on. He wanted to go back to the past and engulf her in his arms and love her.
He was fighting within his own soul, his heart did not believe what he was being shown and, his mind believed that he was not being shown. His ego was hurt, but he knew it from the heart that it was not his ego that was disturbing him, it was something else that was piercing his heart, he was restless, and he felt like his life was being snatched away by someone. He was still on the shore and his phone rang, it was some message, he checked it, it was from Adi, and he sent him some videos and clippings that shook him. He quickly got up, ran to his car and even though Dadima has warned him not to drive fast, he took the car from driver, literally dumped him and drove it as fast as he could to reach airport. He immediately took flight for Delhi; the journey between Mumbai to Delhi was never this much stretched for him. He was restless during the flight and constantly thinking about her, and her whereabouts.

She was on terrace, there were no trails on the terrace, she was sitting on the verge with a bottle of beer in hand and changed cloths, and she was in no possible ways, looking like a newly wedded girl or even bride. She was in her casuals; she was waiting for him as she called him after dinner. He was shocked at her, leaving her own wedding like this, but he somehow went there.
'Hey!'
'Oh, my dear hubby, Come sit, Do you want some booze?' she smiled and asked.
'Wow! You are laughing.' He smiled and tried to put his hands around her shoulders but she refused and shrugged.
'Yes. Thanks to you.' She acted.
'Tell me one thing nik, how did you managed to get me ready for marriage?'
'You know Geets, love finds ways.'
'Will you stop your nonsense now? Or are you waiting for me to kick your ass?
'What are you talking about?'
'Okay. I was just thinking about the night, you know when Maan got that message.'
He was uncomfortable then, he tried to avoid the topic.
'Geets, forget the past and think about you and me. Where do you want to go for honeymoon?'
'For you, jail is sure.'
'Shut up Geets, it's no funnier okay?'
'How much she paid you?'
'Who?'
In answer, she kicked the empty bottle in his chest roughly.
'Ouchā¦it hurts.'
'Then why don't you just spit it out?' she asked causally and without any fear.
'Okay. It was me who sent that message to Maan, she paid me for that, look Geets, for me it was more about you than money, I really loved you.'
'LOVED me?'
'You know Nik, you are pathetic.' She added.
She got up and about to leave from there and he stopped her, and grabbed her hand tightly.
'Where do you think you are going? We are husband and wife now.'
She stopped and gave a bitterly smirk.
'You lucky dog, for few hours you got the chance to live your dream, but, nik by tomorrow noon, you will get divorce papers. Even though I do not consider this wedding cum 'Financial Arrangement' as real marriage because I'm already married - committed, I have exchanged my vows, my soulā¦my lifeā¦with himā¦' She was lost in him once again, but she immediately came out from the trance and looked him,
'But I know you are a fool and I need to stop you. So, be happy for your marriage that did not last for more than 24 hours.' She laughed.
'I will not spare you, Geets.' He panicked.
She turned around and punched him in the nose as hard as she could and he started bleeding.
'That was from Maan.' She smiled and left.
