Sunlight entered their room through the window and woke him up. His eyes slowly opened as he gained consciousness. He saw her close to him. She must have turned at night and now she was facing him and their face was cms apart. She was still asleep beside him. His cheeks turned red when he realised where he had placed his arms. He withdrew his hands immediately and sat up in bed. He rested his head on his hands remembering the events of last night. All that had happened. He felt embarassed. But he didnt quite remember how his hands had gone around Gunjan's waist. What had happened? He shut his eyes and hoped she didnt remember anything too. Why did it always have to be so awkward between the two. Silence always spoke more than them.

No sooner had Samrat entered the toilet than the phone rang. Gunjan woke up with the noise. She sat on the bed and searched for her phone. Her mind was somewhere else. Thinking about all the time she spent with him yesterday. The dance. Their drive home and the whole night in his arms. She blushed hard. The cell phone stopped ringing. Not caring much she stood by her window feeling the breeze against her face. She felt fresh. She felt happy. Finally, she was over her past and she liked it that way. She remembered Bui's words, "He is the man. He will keep you happy!" And that was exactly what Samrat had done. Samrat.. where is Samrat? She looked at the clock in panic. 'Was I late?' she thought. Phew. Its just 8:30.

As he brushed his teeth he recalled Gunjan talking about Divorce. What had he done so wrong that she didnt want to stay with me any longer? Was it just about me not giving her time? I am so used to Gunjan that i cant imagine a day without her. Do I deserve to be alone all my life? First my parents isolated me and now.. He was frightened for a moment. But all the thoughts went out of his mind as he heard a soft voice call for him "Samrat." She spoke. "Samrat?" Gunjan looked around the room. She was half blushing and half embarassed. She exactly remembered last night as she had moved closer to Samrat. She was fit and fresh now, ready to face the new day. Everything seemed brighter to her eyes. Finally she knew why Samrat was so busy. She finally knew that he didnt want a divorce. Her feelings for him still uncertain. But it was becoming clearer. She knew she wanted to be with him.

"Yes Gunjan." Samrat said as he opened the bathroom door to come out. None of them looked into each other's eyes. Both of them shy as ever. "Good Morning" Samrat said. "good morning" gunjan repeated after him. "Are you feeling better now?" he asked considerately. "Yes. I am fine. Thank you." The awkwardness had increased alot. Gunjan wanted him to say something and he wanted her to talk first. No one knew how to start a conversation but both wanted to talk to each other. Their heart was beating fast and they yearned to be together. So no one spoke and silence crept in. "Let me go check on your breakfast." Gunjan said breaking the silence. She went downstairs to check. Samrat smiled as she left the room. "She remembers all about last night!" he told himself. "Now what will i do!!"

At the Breakfast table everyone was silent. Samrat didnt know how to ask her about the previous night. He was embarassed. Gunjan was eating her oatmeal. "Samrat, do you.. I mean i was thinking If you were free so maybe we could.. umm go for a movie today?" Gunjan said with a little hope of hearing a yes. Samrat was silent. 'Shit shit shit. Why did she have to ask today. Today my day is completely packed. Should I say yes? Should I say no? But If I say no then she may divorce me.. maybe she is giving me a chance. And I better not lose this one!' "Samrat, lets go some other day!" Gunjan said after she observed his expressions. "Why?" he said. "You are busy right now with your project and I really dont want to force you!" she said with a smile. "Actually, your right. I am kind of busy. But ill let you know if my meetings can be postponed.. is that okay?" he said sadly. "Yeah. Sure!" Gunjan said disappointed. Samrat left for office and Gunjan was upset as she was sure he would come late again and continue the same routine until this stupid tender got over. 'I hope this tender gets over really soon.. Now this is irritating me.. I am just fed up. Arghh.. And I really felt like reminding him that i am his first wife! Not his work.. but I have really started feeling like his second priority!'

Wow wow wow. Gunjan said all this in anger but she didnt even think twice why she said all this. Why did she suddenly wanted all his attention? Why did she want to spend time with him. Well.. she just stomped off to her room in anger. She sat there reading her cook book she recently bought and thinking about when she would go to class and cheer up! Her phone rang again.. she quickly went to see if it was Samrat. But he usually called on the house landline and she was right. It was some unknown number. She picked up the phone to answer it when the maid said, "Maam, Samrat sir has called downstairs to talk to you." Gunjan left her cell phone and went downstairs to answer his call. She thought he called to refuse so was quite reluctant to talk. "Hello." She said, trying to sound angry. "Gunjan, I am really sorry but we will have to postponed the movie program to tomorrow.. How about that?" he said. Gunjan said "Hmm. Ok. We will see." She said disappointed. "But, I can come home early tonight and we could have dinner together, maybe you could make dinner for me?" he said as he knew Gunjan wasn't happy and that he needed to give her his time. By now he had understood that this was the only way he would ever be able to keep Gunjan with him forever. Even though he longed to be with her he never cancelled his work for that. He knew that his work was the reason why he was alive all these years. "Yes. Sure! I would love to cook!" Gunjan said in her chirpy voice again. Samrat smiled on the phone. "Ok. So ill be home by 8! is that okay?" He asked. "yes yes. Surely!"

And then the whole day Gunjan couldnt concentrate on anything. She refused to hangout with Sameera after class and she came straight home to pick the perfect dish to cook. She wondered what new she could make and what Samrat would like. She was so happy that Samrat himself wanted her to cook and that showed that he had liked everything Gunjan had made. And a way to a man's heart is through his... Stomach! Obviously.

Samrat's condition was similar. He was lost thinking about today morning. He felt guilty thinking about his intentions.. When he had opened his eyes he felt like going ahead and kissing her. But only he knew how he had controlled himself. He wanted to tell Gunjan how he felt about her but he was just not sure if it was the right moment. But he wanted to tell her tonight. 'Should I?' he thought. 'Maybe she would change her mind for the divorce that way.. But what if she doesn't feel the same way for me? What if she's just staying at home for the promise. What if..? But if I see it in a positive way maybe she also feels the same for me? Last night at the party she was comfortable with me and after yesterday.. I dont know. Maybe I should. I should tell her. She is as it is thinking about the divorce. If I dont tell her she will give me a divorce.. Its better to tell her and take the chances. He smacked himself on the head for thinking about all this during work and sat back in his chair thinking of ways to concentrate. He kept looking at the clock every 2 minutes. His clients thought he was in a hurry (because he kept looking at his watch) and finished of the meetings fast! By 6:30 Samrat had finished his meeting. The only thing left was just the paper work. That would take about half an hour. He was nervous, for the first time in his life he was very nervous. He was actually going to say how he felt for her.

Gunjan was all set by 7. She had made the food. She thought she would make Chinese for him. It was her favourite too and she wanted him to like it. She thought she would heat everything once samrat went to freshen up. It was their first REAL DATE.. She was all fresh and she sat in the living room. The only thing left was to WAIT for Mr. Samrat Shergill to arrive. She sat there waiting for her dear husband to arrive. They both just wanted to see each others smiling faces.

*TING TONG* the bell rang at Sharp 7:10 pm. "Wow, Mr.Shergill is early." She commented as she went to open the door. Her face had a huge smile on her face as she was waiting to spend sometime with him. She didnt know why.. and well who cared. All she knew that it was a new feeling and she wanted the day to be great! But all her happiness died out when she opened the door. Her smile turned into shock and someone else's face had a huge smile. "Neil.." she muttered.

"Gunjan.." he said. "Hi.. how are you? I have been calling you all day.." he said in a soft voice. His eyes had dark circled under them and his face was pale. It looked as if he had been sick all this time. Gunjan was in shock. There were tears forming in her eyes. She blamed god again. 'Why? Why does he have to come back when I have forgotten him. When I dont want him anymore. This is not the first time. Why are you doing this to me? He used me. He cheated me and I still have tears in my eyes for him. Why god? Why?' she asked herself. She was breaking down from inside. As Neil started to move towards her she moved back. She shook her head in disbelief as if she had seen a ghost. She didnt know why he was here and nor did she want to know. She wanted him to leave. But her voice. It was weak. His bloody face reminded her of their old days when she loved him so much and he too loved her. Atleast she had thought he did. In a half broken voice she said. "Stop! Stop right there!" Neil did as she said. Even he had those tears in her eyes which now seemed so fake to Gunjan. "Why are you here?" she asked.

"Gunjan. I am sorry! In these past few weeks I realised that no matter how hard I try I cannot survive without you!" he said.

Gunjan laughed. As if she was going crazy with her life. "You really think I would believe you Neil? You never even loved me..! What? Did ur wife leave you? Did she see the real you?" Gunjan asked in a harsh tone. Behind the harshness Neil understood the feelings. She still missed him. She still felt for him. This was what Neil thought. "She was not my wife. This was a drama we both put up. I was broken when I heard that you got married and left. Mom died in the Same week and I was left with empty hands." He said as tears trickled down his eyes. "Then Annie came my way and we became friends and she offered me the job of her manager. She thought I was worth a shot. I told her about you." Neil gulped. "She gave me hope that I could also move on like you did by showing you down. So I came with her to Mumbai.. There when I saw you I was in awe as how happy you were. You kept smiling all the time. And then.. I made a plan to ruin your life. Thats why I came back in your life to torture you.. and when I came to know Bui's story I was shocked. But I still thought you made it up. I was convinced that you just wanted the money. You didnt like Samrat. You married him because he was rich and powerful. Bui couldnt force you until you agreed... and Thats why.. I did everything..!"

Gunjan didnt realise but she was crying, "and Thats why you agreed to take money from Samrat and marry me? Was that in your plan too?" She said still showing that she didnt believe his story, but the truth was she did. She believed what he was saying because she knew all those years couldnt be an act. If he wanted he could use and throw her earlier. If he only cared about her beauty he could do anything and she would let him.. but he didnt. That showed that he did love her and these tears were true. "When Samrat made that offer I thought I could hurt you even more. I'd marry you and then take the money and go away. So that you would realise what you did to me.. and how much pain I went through. But after you two kicked me out that day I was there at the door listening to everything you both said. How sad you were. How much I meant to you, but at that moment I was happy with the little revenge I got. But you still had Samrat by your side.. Gunjan, the pain i gave you, wasn't bared by you alone. All the words I said to you stabbed me every single day in my heart. Thats when I started to realise. I went back to Kolkata for a month and there I could just see you everywhere. I realised how much you meant to me and no matter what happened I couldnt stop loving you! My love for you had become passionate and possessive. At night I couldnt sleep and life had just nothing left for me but.. you!"

Gunjan just stood there numb. Neil had opened his heart out to her and he accepted his faults. But Gunjan.. now what would she do. She didnt know how she felt. "I love you Gunjan.. and I will always love youu" he said moving towards her. Gunjan was shocked. She moved back again. Why did god give her so much pain. Did she deserve to be sad all the time. Now when she had found happiness in staying with Samrat, Neil came back to speak out the truth. And what did she feel? She didnt know. Her heart ached as she tried to stop the tears of helplessness from flowing out.

" You did all this for revenge? You didnt believe me..?" Gunjan said.. "How could I? After all you had done to me. My mother left me.. you left me. I was alone Gunjan. All alone. You were the most important person in my life. And you left me without a warning!" he shook his head. "So for that you tried to ruin my life? And you still say that you love me? Bui was right. All along. Your the most selfish person I will ever meet!!" she cried. "But I loved you! When I saw you with Samrat. I couldnt control myself. I was so possessive of you and seeing you dancing with someone else wasn't very encouraging! I know your angry. And you have all right to be angry but please give me another chance." Now everything was cleared. No misunderstandings..

Samrat came home with a smile hoping to get a warm welcome but what he saw was rather a shock. He dropped his suitcase and was beside Gunjan in a second holding her tight. She stood there numb. Tears trickled down her cheeks as she saw samrat. Her eyes had pain in them. She looked so sad and depressed. "Gunjan.. what happened? Why are you.." and his voice trailed off as he looked up to see Neil. "What did you do to her? What did you say?" Samrat screamed. Gunjan's face shot up perplexed. She looked at Samrat. Their eyes met and Gunjan cried louder.

Samrat held her firmly to show that he was there and she need not cry anymore. He slowly propped her back up. She buried her face in his chest and hugged him, crying even louder. Neil shut his eyes. Samrat put his arms around her.

"Mr Oberoi..!" he said. "Please get out!" Samrat said in anger.. Gunjan clutched him hard. "Mr.Shergill, this is between me and Gunjan, please stay out!" Neil said in a normal tone. "She is My wife!" Samrat said. "Oh please! You know she has always loved me.. why are you doing all this? She is not happy with you!" Neil said. "If she wanted to go with you she could have.." Samrat said. "She is just angry with me now.. But I know my Gunjan.. She will come back to me.. unless you stop her and you better not!" Neil said pointing a finger at Samrat. Samrat was deeply hurt by the way he said "My" Gunjan. "You may leave" Samrat said sternly. "Not until Gunjan tells me to!" Neil said stubbornly. Samrat looked at Gunjan.. She didnt lift her head she just cried more and more. "Cant you see her state.. Please Leave!" Samrat repeated. "No I wont!" Neil said. Neil came closer to Gunjan. She finally turned around and said "Didn't you hear what my husband just said.. OUT!" she said. She said it stronger than either of them expected her to say. "Gunjan, I will wait for you all my life.. Whenever your anger is gone.. just give me a call!" Neil said. Gunjan turned away and smirked. 'As if I would .. ' she thought. 'I have made my decision Neil.. its Samrat. It should have been him all along...I was just being stupid.'

Neil left quietly..

Things were pretty serious after that. Samrat took Gunjan to the room upstairs and before she could say anything he said, "Gunjan, go freshen up first." She nodded obediently and went inside. Meanwhile Samrat sat outside thinking about everything he had planned and how things had turned out today. Everything had gone back to square one. Again Neil hurt Gunjan and he just stood there watching Gunjan break down all over again. How would he be able to pull her back this time. What would happen? No one knew. At the Same time Gunjan looked at herself in the mirror and broke down. She couldnt believe all that had happened to her in just half an hour. Sometime ago she was so happy and now.. now everything had changed. She didnt even know who to curse? Did she do something wrong? Maybe she should have told Neil before getting married. All these problems wouldn't have happened. Or was it Neil's fault. Gunjan was confused. She was just feeling bad for samrat. He was stuck in all this uselessly. She had ruined 3 lives. or maybe many with them. She had ruined everything. Because of her Samrat suffered and she felt very embarassed to even face him.

Samrat was just still thinking about what would have happened if everything had turned out right. He just stood there comparing it with the current situation. In life nothing went the way one plans. God is always there to create a problem. He wished he had come home earlier. He would have never let Gunjan break down in front of him again. He should have just agreed for the movie. Neil would have never been able to get to Gunjan in the first place. But who knew where fate would take them.. Maybe The return of Neil was for their benefit.. like how Gunjan knew exactly what she wanted.

She slowly walked out of the bathroom and sat next to Samrat. "Neil told me everything.." she said in a low voice. She told Samrat everything Neil had said. While she told him the entire story again she didnt look at him even once. But Samrat was just looking at her. Her eyes were swollen and her nose was red. It was all messed up once again. By the end of it Samrat stared at her in awe. He realised that it was not completely Neil's fault. Neil had done something which any lover, betrayed by a person he loved the most, would do. But what he wanted to know was how Gunjan felt about him. Did she want to go back to Neil? Or did she want to stay here, with him. But he was scared to ask. What if.. she chose the first option.. He would lose her forever and they would never be able to get back together...
