Finally I finished reading Part 70 to 73 . Wow, I just realized how much I had missed coming to IF. Hasini , I always love the humor that you bring into the tense and serious situations. Was laughing my head off when Maan imagined Geet in a shoalin Kungfu vest. Reminded me of Kung Fu Panda😆😆.

Here's a song dedication for now .........

Cheers,
AJ

Part 74: Word power

He leaned by the closet door folding his arms and watched her take her top off. She was running hither and tither, half naked, picking blouses one after another and held it in front of her as she stood facing the mirror. She met his gaze to seek his preference and it had brought upon his face, just the smile she had been looking for. And the winner was a turquoise blue stretch with ties from either end that ran criss cross to hold it in place like a shirt. The Chinese collar blended into her collarbones and the transparent sleeve puffed up slightly and ended right above her wrists where his bracelet had just stolen a secret caress. Once she was done with a decent piece to cover herself, she scurried for her hairbrush and now quickly whipped her hair to get the tangles out, smoothing it by the ends.

Somehow she had let go of all cold play in the waking hours of the morning and had kissed him unexpectedly. He was taken back at first, but he was not the kind who did not welcome such unplanned attacks from her, especially when she had initiated it for the first time. He had given in for a short while as they had rolled on the sheets, but had pulled back making up an excuse of getting delayed for their trip. In reality, he was only crippling with guilt. That his wife had given up on hope for him to come around and apologize the way he ought to. But in truth, she only wanted him to talk unlike the "ought to's" he had been imagining. No man wanted to fall short of their wife's expectations and particularly when it was Geet's husband, the adamant, imaginative, demanding and yet every bit vulnerable inside, Maan. If this theory was not good enough, he had gone tangent to that same notion that she was simply using reverse psychology to guilt him into apologizing. But to think of his timid wife to assort to being manipulative seemed scandalous even hypothetically.

It was a still moment as he watched her. Though she moved swiftly around dressing up for their surprise day out, the time in his dimension had slowed down to a quite standstill. As if he belonged to a different time and place and that she had accidentally come into his life. He stood there absorbing the sight of her, immovable with devotion - even when it had only been a hundred times he had watched her pin up her hair into a ponytail - but as her wrists twisted and swirled in air to pull the lush jet of hair though the band, he felt the warmth in him dissolve away, just as suddenly as it had showed up. He would miss her...Soon she was to leave to SF and it was only two sunsets away. It didn't matter...not even if he were to spend every waking moment with her in his arms, right up to the time she would sweep her step into the plane and it still would not come close to saving him from the ocean of angst that awaited him...once she would no longer be in his arm's length.

"Maan...you are shameless...You can't watch me when I'm...Samjhe" she said as stepped out of the room with a coy smile. The trench hung on her left arm, a handbag on the other shoulder, while another small duffel was being hoisted in the air for him to carry.

"We are married right? Or is this an affair? I prefer the latter..." He said with a laugh as he got the bag out of her hold and tugged her by her wrist. He preferred to play along than wallow in the frustration that was budding in him. The pull had landed her on his chest and she didn't fight it. Something about the word had changed the truth of the second. That they had a 2 hr drive ahead of them and that he had wanted to reach the surprise destination well before 10.00 AM...and that they would be fashionably late, if they were not going to leave in another 13 mts. She could not escape the tease the word brought into her body and so she indulged him as she felt her control slip.

"Accha...affair chaiye?...we can have one when I move to SF...phone pe?" She arched her left brow in question. The unexpected words out of her mouth brought a rush to him, he did not want to restrain. And so he freely moved his lips over the curve of her neck while an uncontrollable urge to feel the expanse of her skin was sputtering inside him.

"God woman...there is some kick in the word affair I have to tell you..." he said as she moaned and whimpered upon contact of his stable hand that grazed under her top.

"Maan...." She called out his name, not knowing if she wanted him to stop or continue. It felt that there was another world that was drawing her away from the maddening news and undiscovered secrets of her family.

She arched her back towards him, as he pulled up her bent knee up his thigh. Quite underestimated is the power of words, which at times could lead one state of mind to another seamlessly. At least, it did for for them and now the visual images that filled their mind ran a new course of need in their blood...But he stopped abruptly.

"We need to talk first...I should have done this a long time ago..." he said as he dragged her across the room and straight to the elevator.

It did not help the cause he was at and only made matters worse for him as he stood in front of the two cars in the garage, wondering if the feisty Ashton or the curvy Merc would do for their drive that day. In actuality, he was just plain nervous over what he wanted to talk to her, now that he had committed to the very act.

If he thought it was end of the world as it is, it all played out differently in Geet's head.

She felt he seemed calmer now, accruing all credit to their little make out session in the morning hours.

It was cruel joke that life was playing on her. Now that she had experienced the pleasures of another realm, she was going away from her husband in less than three days. The whole subject of her moving to SF had not been discussed yet, something that was so unlike him. But in the dull light, when she had woken up to their laced up bodies, she could not restrain herself from stealing that well deserved kiss, he had kept from her the last two days. She couldn't put a finger on which one it was that had made him ignore the issue; either he was just waiting for the right words and time or he was insensitive to the hurt she had felt from his well-kept secrets. As it is, she was sure there was nothing intentional and yet she could not drive out her feeling like an alien when she was around him. Given the number of reasons she had, to not shower him with any physical mercy, she felt she was losing out on the time she had with him. But when she was approaching him, every bit difficult as she tried to forgive him and push aside her multitude of inhibitions in initiating physical intimacy, he was pulling away. He was behaving all the more unpredictable for her now.

Perhaps that is how he worked, she concluded, wondering if she could ever foresee the inner workings of her husband.

As they seated themselves on the cool leathers of the Ashton, he gave her an assuring smile, like the one he always gave her, when he knew exactly what to do. Only if she knew he was fishing for words inside.

A few half hours passed before they entered the tolerable silence of Connecticut. Their car traced the tar of the NY to CT highway and now gathered looks of awe from every passer by. A man could never feel more proud when it was his tinker toys, gadgets and his woman that commanded such attention and so he was; glorified with pride over his possessions that being his car and his wife.

"I used to chase her around the mansion" he said as he shot a look to her side. When his words cut through the piercing silence, she leaned back and turned to listen to him. Something told her, it was not just another regular kill-time banter.

"Daadima had made a cape for me...I can still feel it tied around my neck you know" he smiled at her " So wearing that every night, I would chase her. Mom used to find it difficult to put us to sleep...We had to expend all that energy somewhere...and so we played Damsel in distress. Dadaji was the dragon" He laughed.

"Even at that age, with arthritis almost crippling him, he would sit in that wheel chair and roar just like a dark evil animal to keep us going...night after night. I guess I can never get tired of it" He looked straight at the road, unable to face her, but the smile managed to show up as he recollected the good old days. May be it was guilt or sadness...or just remembering loss that made him vulnerable that minute. But she sensed it while she put her hand on his, which was switching gears now unconsciously.

"When mom passed away...it didn't take long for dad to follow and then it was just us" He paused to swallow the pain that spewed into his body, from his being.

"I didn't know that being just 3 years elder would help...somehow I was pulled towards games, studies and comics...and she fell for darker things" He refused to look at her, as if her one compassionate gaze could break him that weak moment. How much time could she see him suffer? She wondered. Perhaps she never did want him like this, even if it meant some unspoken words and thoughts would never see the light of day.

"Maan...as much as I want to know...I can't see you like this" she said, as her grip on his hand grew tighter.

"No...it's fine...I just want to finish this off...just listen to it like a story...I'm...just listen Geet" His mind picked up a chuckle at the lies that now came so easily to him. This was only the story of his life that had disabled him to live life to the fullest. He thought his words could trick him too into not feel anything that moment, but there were some demons that came out to play and never left until they made their marks of return. It was surprising that they would come so easily, without so much as a request and took so much of him...as they would leave; time, energy and some he dare not name...

To her, he came across in a different light, like a part of him hated doing what he was doing but something he had to do at least once with her. She listened earnestly, given he was giving it all from his side.

"Where were we? Oh! Yes...so she rebelled...may be because she thought she was rebelling against god or whatever that took mom and dad away...."

Just as he sighted Stamford, he had asked her if she wanted some breakfast and she had said no, only fearing to lose the momentum his words were picking up that morning. And so he continued as per her request.

"Boys at 15 and binge drinking, which she thought no one would find out apparently...She was quite a handful for Daadima. It brought the monster out in me...that is perhaps when I had first started showing anger so openly...The papers caught it all, the company was plummeting badly...We were all losing it"

Once again he stopped to collect himself. The past was now biting cold.

"It all changed when she eloped from home at 18 with a guy who was even elder to me. She married him and the newspapers had a field day...Daadima was shocked...but the worst was Dadaji...he had an attack"

"Maan...I'm sorry...we really don't have to..." she had said, to which he placed an assuring hand on her. She felt she had tortured him enough, but he was insistent.

"We were not mafia...and I never understood why on earth she would feel we would tie her up if she ever returned?" He felt anger mixed with contempt for her, reliving the same scenes in his conscious mind.

His statement confused her as she felt his emotions run high; she knew she was still missing something.

"He called to see her one last time...and she didn't make it...she didn't even pick Daadima's calls. The only part I regret is not going in search of her to yank her back to the house...Either ways it didn't help...It was all too late...And now the prodigal daughter returns and you know the rest"

He parked the car as he slid off the highway and came to a halt. Continuing to look straight ahead, he arched down on the steering wheel and rested his forehead on it..

"The Khurana's never ran short of drama eh?" he laughed mockingly. She maintained her silence as words failed her.

" It all just seemed so convenient to live like it never happened that's all" he said as he turned to face her. She smoothed down his shoulder to attempt to placate him. "Its really the things I think I could have done to change the situation is what kills me...not that she left or Dadaji..." His sorrow chocked his own words as he the thought of the grey haired man came back into his mind.

"Not that he could have lived forever...but trust me, your mind is so good at coming up with a list of May-be's...all the things you could have done and said...It's plain good not to deal with it sometimes"

With that, he once again started the vehicle and joined the streaming fast lane of cars on the highway. No one spoke for another good half hour, until Geet felt the need to say something.

"Thanks Maan...I know it was difficult" She said knowing he had lived through it to bring the truth out to her. She didn't know if she could make amends to the hole in his heart, but she didn't want to cause any either. His word power had conjured up the image of his past for her; clear and vivid the picture was but the moral was yet to be read.

As the silence stretched on... their journey continued..

As promised peeps...Hopefully I will be able to finish the post soon and have them sort it all out. Oh! so when I mention a time and date, I'm always referring to the US time. Please check thread status on first post to know when the next update will be. I'm going to keep that updated, for you all to track.

HAPPY HOLI !

If we ever met again
I know that there would be a sin that night
I'm sure that we could rationalize
until we both knew what we did was right ....

let's have an affair...

***

whatever happened, happened and it was meant to happen...can you really control over what can be changed or not... it's just fate and Maan was just being deliberately ambiguous.

I feel as though there is more to than what meets the eyes... the past is not over yet!
