Brij was waiting for Maan's arrival; he committed to be here by 8 in the morning; he has already told Darjee about the proposal and that Maan will be coming.
The ladies were told to make special breakfast as someone important was going to come; Rajji was being asked to give Geet company in her room and see to it that she dresses up nicely. Titoo has gone to school.
Mohinder was not told the full truth and not even his elder son Brij's father knew more than the fact that Maan the man who purchased the land, is coming for breakfast.
Geet was quite confused, as this was Maan who was coming so the possibility that some random guy was coming with a marriage proposal was not there;
she had been told that she will be married off soon in front of the whole village this time very soon; but why then was she asked to dress up properly, may be she finally has to sign the papers but then how will she get the agents address; hai Babaji, do something help me.
Maan was a punctual man, he was on the Handa's main gate exactly at 7: 58, he hated being late, and this issue had left him restless all night so the sooner it's over better he will feel.
He was welcomed by Brij, he went forward and took Darjee's blessings; it was his way of communicating that their proposal was under consideration; Darjee was glad by the gesture and hugged him; Brij was relived; but Mohinder and his brother were confused.
The men headed for the breakfast, Maan was sure Geet will come to serve as she was the one they asked him to marry to; but to his surprise she was not there;
the two ladies and a girl in her 15's were serving the food; this family is really weird they sure have many secrets hidden he thought; even as they finished their food there was no trace of the girl;
now he was loosing his patience, just for a sign he has to go through all this, it was taking his toll.
Brij asked what he has decided
M: I thought about it the whole night, I think your sister is good looking but she is way to younger then me and she still I think has her studies to pursue
B: she is not that young; she is 18; even law says that age as marriageable; and as far as studies are concerned she just completed her 12th and if you like she can always study after marriage
M: is she ready to marry a man elder to her by 7 yrs, look I am 25 much older than her
D: this is not the issue even Rano her mother is younger than Mohinder by 6 yrs and this Brij's wife is also younger then him by 5 yrs.
M: ok but before taking any final decision I would like to talk to her for 10 mins but only her, ALONE!
B: in our culture girls don't talk to strangers
M: I am no stranger to her; it was I who brought her here that day when she fainted and even the other day I was the one who saved her from drowning.
D: wait Brij (afraid Maan might say no) ok you can talk to her but only for 10 mins not a second more or a second less
M: I will make it sure
D: Brij take him to Geet's room, they will talk there
Brij takes Maan to Geet's room,
He first enters the room saying let me check if she is ready
M: take your time, I'll be waiting
(as soon as Brij entered the room he saw Rajji peeping from the pillar, trying to attract his attention, he went near her and she handed him a letter and said read it once you are out of here, and ran away before Brij came out)
Meanwhile Brij warned Geet not to say anything to Maan about her fake marriage, if she as much as uttered a word he will kill her and Maan also as he will then know their secret, he informed her that they were planning to get her married to him as soon as possible
B: you can go and talk to her
M: thank you, so 10 mins from now, time your watch (smirks, what a confusing family, they all are so complicated, pats the letter in his pocket)
Inside the room
Geet was facing the window and did not see him enter
M: Geet
She turned: yes
M: do you know why I am here?
G: yes, veer ji just told me, he also asked me not to mess things
M: mess things?
G: did you get the letter
M: yes
G: good read it and if you agree, find me at the place specified in it
M: what's that you can't talk about it here? I mean now
G: once you are there you will get all your answers
