A term coined by the festival's Co-Director Cameron Bailey to aptly describe the new crop of independent films brewing in the Indian subcontinent mistakenly also sometimes referred to as "new-age" cinema.
At this morning's opening press conference for the 2010 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival's CEO Piers Handling and Co-Director Cameron Bailey announced a selection its stellar lineup of Galas and Special Presentation including premieres of Kiran Rao directorial debut, the Aamir Khan starrer 'Dhobi Ghat' and Anurag Kashyap directed 'That Girl in Yellow Boots.'
Speaking exclusively to Filmicafe on selecting Aamir's next for the festival Cameron said, "It's a film I'm very passionate about. It's a very different role for Aamir Khan and a very different film for him. Personally I love the film!"
The 'non-traditional' film shows India and its people in a different light, "Its like a love letter to Mumbai" Cameron said.
A love letter all cinema lovers cannot wait to open!
