Chapter 27

Vicky and Maan immediately got into action, Maan dialed Abs' number walking into the porch behind the breakfast room whispered Cherie! Bonjour! Did you sleep well? Abs said yes why are you being so sweet this morning everything alright, as she was about finished her breakfast and was putting away the dish into the basin and begin rinsing them.

Maan thought as he scowled, pakde gaye! Yeh aurantoon ko sixth sense kya bhagwaan deta hai, first daadi and now Abs. He went on the offensive why aren't I sweet to you always? Taking care of your wishes and all? He hinted at respecting her wish to not indulge in love making till they got married to side track her. Abs knew something was really up, true that it was just more than a month that they had decided to get hitched but come on, she was sure something was up. She hazarded a guess, Daadi! She said, Daadi ne kuch kaha?

Maan said Huh! Daadi! How did you know it involves daadi! Abs smiled knowlingly. Oh she said I can actually see you Maan! Maan turned around on the porch wondering how Abs had reached in their back garden. Then he laughed and said Cherie! You are having me on and you are enjoying this aren't you. Now hang on , I was going to help you with this, but I think you are so sure you can handle this on your own, so let me tell you, Daadiji has called you over for lunch to discuss the wedding plans. He heard a thud in the background and did a Yes! By pulling his fisted arm in and air kicking with left leg. Abs had dropped the pan she was rinsing and almost dropped her cell from the shoulder. She stopped doing the dishes and said holding her phone tightly, what, today? Maan! No! I mean! Are you serious!

Maan straightening said, Yes! With a laugh he was trying to choke back. Abs heard that and said. Ok have your fun. I will show you what this woman can do and if I am able to "handle" myself, you will fall at my feet and grovel your subservience to me forever, deal? She did a small jig in her kitchen for coming up with such a brilliant idea to show Mr Maan Singh Khurana, who is the real boss.

Maan stopped laughing, but knowing what Daadi had been upto this morning, he figured, Abs is going to have a few uncomfortable moment or two so he said Ok! And If I am needed to help you, you will give me what I want! And I am not telling you what it is right now..and no it is not..what you are thinking, that I will respect, but still you will give me one wish. Okay?

She said okay! Sighing a mental relief at what she had been thinking he would want and him not wanting that. She did wonder what it could be but she decided to ponder over that later. For now I have to do something about this blessed lunch. What does daadiji want? Making a face that would have made her laugh if she had been looking into a mirror. She said then What time shall I come? No said Maan I will pick you up around 12, Daadiji likes to eat around 1pm so it will give some time for chitchat.

Hmm! Said Abs wondering chitchat with daadi oh God! And then told him she would like the time to prepare for the lunch and will not come to office now, Maan agreed smiling and said, yeah Cherie you need to prepare yourself, trying to scare Abs, they told their byes with a kiss to each other. They had fun with these small bickering but after all they loved each other.

Vicky had seen bro step onto the porch and had taken the other direction to give both of them privacy while they tackled their respective women.

Nargis was in the shower and rushed out to the bedroom when she heard the phone ring. Vicky had gone late in the night and she being her own boss had decided to sleep in and go a little late to office. She had woken up half hour back and had decided to finish a few household chores before going to office and had gone to take a shower. She was just about finished when the phone rang, so she just pulled her towel and half ran to the phone and picked it up breathless Hello! Vicky said, babes! You have been running? Nargis said no I just came out of the shower! Coming back to normal breathing. Vicky said Oh ho! Wow shall I come and join you? nargis went Vicky! Stop joking around early in the morning. She slumped on the bed with exasperation at Vicky and his forever in the bedroom thoughts. Vicky said ok ok! I didn't call you for that, it is more important than having fun right now. Waise bhi Daadima ne mera saara fun aaj subah hi nikal diya tha. Woh to meine kuch karke bacha liya apne aap ko.

Daadima? What happened asked Nargis nervously biting her lower lip. She had met the lady once more than a year back in an office party for a few seconds. She was a commanding lady. She could see Maan's personality reflect that more often than Vicky, who was more easy going and given to buffoonery.

Vicky said I told her about you! without preamble. Nargis was thankful she was already seated else she would have surely fallen with the shock Vicky just gave her. What! You told her! What did she say! Did you tell her about me being Muslim! That was the first thought she had in the mind. One reason she had slept in late was that she had talked with her bhabhi about Vicky and had asked her to check the air on how Baba was going to take it. More than Baba she was worried about her brother and that is the reason she had confided in her sister in law. She had a lot on her mind already and now Vicky had dropped a bomb on her. Vicky said oh! Everything is fine! She has called you for lunch! Nargis was not fooled by his bravado. She felt something was wrong but Vicky was putting up a front to keep her calm. Well she was always calm. Damn, this Vicky had to spring this one on her now, when she was in turmoil with how to tackle her brother. When, I mean what time Vicky! Vicky said I will come pick you up a 12 and be here by 12:30, daadima likes to eat at 1pm so you can actually get to talk to her a bit before we sit for lunch.

Oh God! Vicky what am I going to do? I am so anxious. Oh I have to talk to my family too. And I am not sure I am going to be able to handle this today. Oh God! Can't I excuse myself out of this one.

Nahi! Said Vicky, ek baar daadima ne bol diya so bol diya. I have to take you. I will come around 11 am and help you out with things about daadima. Don't worry babes, I am with you. by the way so will Maan bhai and Abs so you have your support system.

Nargis gave a sigh of relief hearing that. She said, Oh good! They will be there, that will be help. Vicky said in a hurt tone and I wont be? Nargis said its not like that, but tum shaitaani karoge wahan par to mein kya karoongi? You always play pranks, I am warning you no pranks today else you have had it. I will walk out. Vicky muttered to himself, apni lagi padi hai yahan par, prank kaun karega, mera baap! Nargis asked what did you say? Vicky then coughed and said nahi nahi, daadima ke samne to ekdam achche bachche ki tarah rahoonga, like my baap. Is what I said.

Vicky said, theek hai mein aata hoon thori der mein, I will go to the office and put in couple of hours and and come over to your place and help you out. Wear something traditional wont you? Vicky pleaded. Nargis said of course Vicky, mujhe itni akkal to hai. Now put the phone down I need to talk to Abs.

Nargis dialed Abs' number after getting dressed and fortifying herself with a cup of chai. Abs picked the phone up on second ring and yes Hey Nargis! wassup! I am a bit busy now, can I call you back in the evening or something? Nargis said, you are going to Maan's home for lunch right, before Abs could put the phone down. Yes said abs how did you know? Stopping herself from cutting the call, she went over the kitchen counter and put down the carrot she was holding near the grater. She had put on her apron after washing the dishes and had decided to make something sweet for daadima as a dessert for the lunch. She had just washed carrots and skinned them and was in the process of grating them when Nargis had called. Gajjar ka halwa would take good 1 hour to cook and she needed to give it her full attention and had told nargis that she will call back when she realized Nargis knew about the lunch. Oh don't tell me, you are invited too? Maan didn't tell me! Nargis said he might have forgotten or something, anyway, I called to ask you, are you taking anything for daadima? Cause I thought I should do something and I have only met her once so thought I would take your advice. Abs told her about Gajjar ka halwa. Nargis then said in a low voice, what should I do? Shall I get her a gift? Abs said, she may like that but hey why don't you ask Vicky? Anyway hey I really have to go. I have to get this Gajjar ka halwa done. Can I call you once its done, till then you can probably talk to Vicky about this. Sorry I hope you understand.

Hey said Nargis! I was just very nervous and thought of you first so I called. Yeah I will call Vicky. Thanks anyway.
