"I have come to my city. I don't feel like a hero or superstar when I am in Ludhiana. It feels homecoming. If it was possible then I would love to visit each and every household in the city," said Bollywood He Man Dharmendra.
The actor was in the city to inaugurate a store at the Westend Mall on Saturday.
Putting an end to all questions on his political career, he said, "I felt suffocated in politics. I was dragged emotionally into the field. The day I had agreed, I went to the washroom and banged my head into the mirror regretting what I had done. Politics is something I never wanted to do." "The amount of work which I have done for the people of my constituency, Bikaner, nobody has done till date," he said in chaste Punjabi.
Speaking about the ongoing corruption and political games in the country, he said, "I need not say anything as everybody knows what is happening in the country."
Remembering the good old days in his homeland, Sahnewal, he said, "I remember how I use to stand in queue for hours to get the tickets for the latest movies." He expressed his love for the Punjabi culture and Punjabi movies saying that, "Whenever I do a Hindi movie, I try to give a Punjabi flavour and touch to my character because I love Punjabi lifestyle."
On being asked if he would like to work in a Punjabi movie, he said, "I would love to, if a good script is offered to me." He also said that making Punjabi movies these days is really not affordable due to the lukewarm response, "Hats off to those who are still making Punjabi films."
On being asked about his love for honey as he agreed to inaugurate a honey store, he said in a joking way that he eats lots of honey not only because it is healthy but also because he loves to eat sweet things being a Punjabi. Talking about his upcoming film 'Yamla Pagla Deewana, he said, "It is a film which I am doing with Bobby and
Sunny. It will be a comedy film but at times it will bring tears in eyes."
He also added that the super hit song 'yamla pagla deewana' from his film 'Pratigya' is so close to his heart that he decided to give this title to his next upcoming film. When asked about his future plans of doing any film with his wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol, he said, "We are waiting for a good story. It will not be a surprise if the five members of our family are seen together on the screen for the first time in the coming days as some good stories are being studied. Also there will be one to two movies every year from our home production."
"To be an honest person is the most essential for any profession," he said, on being asked about his professional experiences as an actor and a politician. Meanwhile, the whole shopping mall was full of visitors as the city people gathered in huge numbers to welcome 'Punjab Da Puttar' in spite of the highly beefed up security.
Fans of the superstar waited at the entrance of the mall for hours to get a single glimpse of their superhero.
