Remember Ruchi Narain, who made her directorial debut with KAL, the critically acclaimed film which was incidentally Chitrangada Singh's last film? Well, Narain is now ready to start her next film and this time she is making sure that the film boasts of some heavyweights. Moreover she has also got a corporate house to back the project. According to her, the last two years have seen the emergence of several new directors on the scene. 'There was a time when new directors had a tough time trying to convince the established producers about their directorial abilities. Today it is just the opposite with the big production houses like Yashraj, Mukta Arts, UTV and Entertainment One, relying on the newer lot of directors.'
Another factor that has proved to be beneficial for the new directors, according to her is the fact that senior directors like Sudhir Mishra and Prakash Jha, are now producing films and taking on new directors. 'It is definitely a good time for us,' she smiles.
She has no regrets about the fact that her last film KAL got an average response at the box-office. 'It didn't bring the house down but it got all the critical appreciation it deserved from various quarters. Besides your first film can be considered good only if it helps you make a second. In my case, it helped me get several offers for a second film,' she says.
