TV stars go public
Sleek automobiles, tinted glasses and high heels…If you thought this was the stuff TV actors were made of, you've got to check your facts again. Sapana Patil finds out that for some celebs, public transport is still a means of getting there...
• Rajshri Thakur, Saloni in Saat Phere on Zee TV
I travel by train simply because I don't have a car. In the train, fellow passengers don't always recognise me because they don't expect actresses to travel by train. But when they do, they are surprised. They talk to me about my show and often ask for autographs too. I like the response I get.
• Kunal Kumar, Shashant in The Great Indian Comedy Show on Star One
I have two cars, a Zen and a Honda City. But I find trains more convenient for going to town from the suburbs (I live in Malad). Frankly, I have no problem about travelling by train. I believe if other professionals can travel by train, so can actors. Not only is it a faster means of travelling, there are also no parking problems involved. Parking, in town, is such a problem. I've had my car towed more than once.
• Milind Soman, model, actor, producer
I have a car. But sometimes it is convenient to take a taxi. I have no problems in taking a cab or an autorickshaw. It has been a long time since I travelled by bus or train, though. I enjoy bus rides, but I find them too slow.
• Priyanka Bassi, Sheena in Bombay Talking on Zee Caf
I have a car. But I travel by taxi every now and then. There are times when my driver is not around, and at such times a cab becomes the best option of going to work.
• Mrinal Deshraj, Trupti in Ek Ladki Anjaani Si on Sony
The mode of transport is immaterial for me. What really matters to me is reaching my destination on time. I travel by train whenever I have to go to town. It's much faster than going by car. Owing to bad roads and traffic jams, travelling by road is just too painful. However, for smaller distances, I do use my car.
