PART 1
Once there lived a seafarer on the coast of England in a small hut with his wife and two children. His name was Samuel. He was fastidious in his ways. Though all the fishermen around him had given up primitive methods of fishing he still continued the old ways and even on being asked he gave a declination to their proposal and incurred losses. This made him revert from goodness and people saw that there was decadence in him.
One day after he returned from trip he saw some people buying fish from the others. When he put up the fish he had bought, for sale nobody bought it coz it had rotten on the way back. After the customers had left he started to use Vitriol on other fishermen. They all collected around him but he stood to his ground in a bravado way.
PART 2
There was a huge hustle bustle around the place. Samuel's wife, a Virago, came out. Samuel looked at her and knew he had much more trouble than he was ready for. HE remembered he had first seen her with a schoolman, he didn't know that the contretemps would change the course of his life, thinking she also would be a scholar, he had asked for her hand in marriage. Only later he realized that he was wrong. He always thought that if she would have been educated, her parents would have never agreed to their marriage and allowed her to live with him in his HOVEL. There was a noise at the sea shore, that served as red herring for Samuel, letting him escape from the scene.
PART 3
It was only in his later years of marriage that Samuel had discovered that his wife Anna was vacuous. The beauty of her skin that had attracted him was now replaced by a pallid skin and he realized that external beauty is ephemeral. He had become lovelorn and fishing which was once his hobby and passion now had just become perfunctory and this was clearly evinced in his earnings .Anna's constant interference had been an impedance he faced and this had not only vitiated his earnings but also his moral self. He tried to stay least at home and even quaffed the food hurriedly. He had tergiversated a lot of times in his arguments so that he could escape from her as soon as possible.
PART 4
One night, in spite of living in a country with Shogunate government, leaving his daughter in febricity, the one he loved in macrocosm, Samuel quit his home to obtain certain acquittance from his friend Henrick. On his way he stayed in a hostelry so that he could reach Henrick's home early.
PART 5
In spite of being somnolent Samuel continued his journey after a short stay at the inn. The wind being Gelid he was shivering with cold, but continued his journey, though he could hardly see anything because the sun still hadn't risen. The road was edged with sere vegetation which made the walk all the more dull. Henrick was not only a money lender but also Samuel's friend. Henrick was more educated than him so he wanted his help in financial and personal matters. He had a brought a small parcel with him which contained the fresh catch from the sea knowing Henrick liked the unadulterated fish which was not easily found in the country. He knew he will have to put forth a cogent talk to make Henrick believe him.
PART 6
Next morning Samuel reached Henrick's house. He knew Henrick was Laconic in his expressions, Vindictive by Nature. Samuel remembered that henrick was not like that from his childhood days. When they were young Henrick was Facetious and wanted to be a sailor by profession but the things had not turned out the way he wanted .Due to certain litigations he had given up his dreams and this had made him Obdurate. Samuel reached the door and knocked .It was opened by a woman in mid 30's .She spoke loudly and with a vehemence tone. She was dressed in a shabby grey gown and her hair was tied up in a bun. Samuel asked her about Hen rick on which he was shown into a small parlor which was designed in a Bucolic way. She lit the fire in the fireplace and while bringing the fire to flames that had died out at night, her hands were blackened by cinder dust but she didn't seem to mind it and continued her work. He was then told Hen rick will be with him in a few minutes. He nodded his head and sat there. He saw a nonpareil painting of a Lady wearing MOIR silk dress. Henrick came into the room after about ten minutes. He looked at him and smiled. Samuel was relieved that Hen rick didn't mind him seeing there.
He asked him to sit down. They both chatted for sometime after which it was announced that Lady Mitchell was coming in. Henrick told him that it was his wife. Samuel looked up and saw that it was the same lady in grey gown that came in. Samuel was shocked. She, wife of Henrick, What an Opprobrious wife she must be wife of such a rich man and dressed like that. But he was wrong. After that came in a Lady, dressed in a gown of soft green color with her hair left in loose curls about her, pretty face. Henrick stood up as she came in. But there was a look of reproach in his eyes as if he was not happy with his marriage. The lady came in and sat down with them after a small introduction by the host. The lady passed inimical comments about Samuel's profession, which didn't make a difference to him as he was used to them by now, Henrick didn't like his wife commenting on his friend's occupation.
Samuel then gave Hen rick the gift he had brought. He told him that the fish was unadulterated and was salubrious as it contained no Harmful chemicals that were present in the fish available in the market. The clock stuck ten. The lady got up and excused herself telling that she must see to household works and she will also send tea for them. Samuel thanked her. She left the room and suddenly Henrick felt Malaise. He told Samuel about it who followed the way the Mitchell had taken and called out. He was answered immediately by a man servant. Samuel told him about henrick and with his help took henrick to his room. The doctor was called for immediately. The doctor administrated a percutaneous medicine which had to be given to him every 3 hours. Only after the Doctor left did Samuel look about the room. He saw that though the rest of the house was decorated grandiloquently, Henrick's room was Spartan but beautiful. There were cream colored bed hangings around his four poster bed. There was a study table on which there was some kind of an instrument in which a reticle of threads was placed. It looked quite extraordinary to Samuel for threads to be placed on an instrument. He sat down on a chair and remembered the time his father used to tell him about the moon, stars and the ether that made it all. They used to sit under the shade of the tree in the garden and his father used to spend hours telling him stories. Though over the years his stories had become banal he never got tired listening to them. The memories of his childhood were still Limpid as though it had taken place only a day before. He remembered the day when the big people from town had come to take away the house from them. They had brought along with them an Integrator to calculate the area of their house. The machine had engrossed him and he had always wanted to learn how that works but fate had taken away all that they had. Within a few months of the incident his father had passed away which left him with no choice except to make his own living. It was hours since he had been sitting there on a chair all by himself. Henrick was still unconscious lying on his bed. It was late in the evening, Samuel knew by the darkness outside. Mitchell came in and explained in prolixity the reason for Henrick's condition.
Part 7
After the talk Mitchell showed him into a room which was Frowzy but august in its material kept there. He lied down on the bed and remembered the time when he could share banter remarks with his friend. He remembered that Hen rick was always mawkish. He remembered Hen rick and his character very well and every detail Mitchell had told Samuel about his business and the Conventions he had attended though being told about it in a very circuitous way and her tone was often sardonic. And though he knew some of the inevitable facts were given to him but there still remained certain parts of the story that had been clandestine, but he had been told some of Henrick's past. He remembered that Hen rick was always gauche, libertine kind of a person. He would always change in accordance with the Conesus, though he was a bit reticent he was always good at cajoling people and by the story his wife had narrated him he knew that this is what had helped him in accretion of wealth and making his business empire. He had always been good at paronomasia though he was malicious towards others, which others didn't know about. Henrick's father was of hieratic origin and Samuel and hen rick had been neighbors which had given them the opportunity to know each other better. Henrick's father had once given Samuel a Drachma which Samuel still had kept safe with himself. Suddenly a voice was heard and the whole place seemed to be reverberating with noise. Samuel gets up to realize that it was only a dream. With these thoughts Samuel drifts off to sleep. Early next morning when Samuel gets up he gets the news that there was something wrong with Henrick's eyesight and the ophthalmologist had been sent for. When Samuel reaches Henrick's room he saw a small phalanx was standing there…
Part 8
Samuel cleared the crowd and reached in front to see that Henrick was lying on the bed languorously. One look at Mitchell's face and he knew that there was something wrong. He began palpitating and he transferred his gaze to the Pellucid dappled rays of sunlight coming in. His heart seemed to take in the warmth and he prepared himself to any sort of news that was coming his way. The doctor told them that henrick had lost his eyesight in the accident. Samuel didn't seem to understand the doctor he was a dead pan. Henrick had not met with any accident. He just was not well, but Hen ricks wife's nod made him remember the details of their talk that they had previous night. The doctor's medical kit was sumptuous and it looked as though he had been one of the best doctors in town. He realized that the doctor and Hen rick must have been belonging to the coterie of well established people in town. The doctor left the place, And even Samuel went to his room. His thoughts were in a whirl. He wasn't prepared for this. He had just come for some help but to see henrick like this. After some time a maid came and told him that henrick wanted to see him but he was so lost in his thoughts that he dismissed her languidly. Later when Samuel realized what he had done and rushed immediately to Henrick's room. Hen rick was sitting in his bed and was being fed some broth, talking something that was gobbledygook but Mitchell was listening to him with rapt attention. He noticed that the curtains around the bed were being rendered by force. On seeing Samuel in the room Henrick's wife, Mitchell, told her husband about Samuel coming to room. Henrick told Mitchell to leave the room. Mitchell nodded her head and, with what seemed to Hen rick like a Hodgepodge on the cloth, left the room. Hen rick asked Samuel to sit down beside him. Henrick looked bit worried…though Samuel could not guess the meaning of his worried looks.
Hen rick started to talk about the impecunious position of Samuel's life and that his living conditions were execrable. Samuel could not understand the reason for Henrick's Vituperation but he took it all in the stride thinking it might be due to his illness.
Henrick then started to speak about his own refulgent persona, he sung his own praises, continued his braggadocios, and denigrated Samuel's profession and life as much as he could and Samuel could stand.
After a while Samuel was frustrated and told Hen rick That he would be leaving Immediately. Henrick smiled as soon as he had heard this. Samuel was again not able to understand the reason for Henrick's happiness.
Hen rick then asked for forgiveness and asked Samuel to sit down ,too taken aback to say anything Samuel sat down ,before Samuel could say anything, Hen rick said "I want u to become the care taker of all my property…That's what I was seeing. I see you are more concerned about yourself respect than all the money I have. Even my bawdy comments that hurt you, you kept your composure till you could for the sake of our friendship. You didn't hurt me but just wanted to walk away. That's what I wanted to see. Now I have talked to Mitchell about this. She will explain my Business to you and I would like to felicitate you for the new found business empire. "
Samuel was too shocked to utter even a word. He realized that Hen rick was not able to realize that Samuel will not come all alone but a cadge would be there too. Henrick called Mitchell into the room and it was then for the first time that Samuel saw her in proximity that he noticed a harelip, which had been concealed well enough, by something over her lips.
Samuel was taken out of the room and before he could understand anything He was called to solve a case for a fight between the farmers and the land owners. After listening to the case Samuel realized that today he was in a position to show mercy to the poor and he did that when he abrogated the Tax on the farmers who, he noticed lived in abject poverty.
After this he told Hen rick that he wanted to go home and make necessary arrangements for his family.
Hen rick told Samuel to take Richard, his dobbin, which could be useful to him on the way. Samuel agreed to it and started his home ward journey. He noticed a baroque land with unregulated security. Later he realized that it was Henrick's land. He enjoyed his ride back home and on the way back home he even came across a pharos which, though existed for several years, he realized that when his ships will bring the goods, the lighthouse will show them the correct path.
The day had reached its crepuscular part when he reached home where he saw that the condition of the house had Exacerbated in past three days. He knew that Anna had always been careless but to see the house in such a dilapidated condition made his heart ache. Before entering into the house he went into the small patch of plants he had grown beside his house. He saw the roses of different colors that blossomed in his garden. He remembered the time when he had sat for days together in grafting the various colored plants that were available. He then turned back to his house circumspectly, thinking about he would he explain the circumstances of his situation to Anna. He knew that the wealth he was in charge of him will serve as a bastion to him today. He walked into the house after a tap on the door where he saw that Anna was on a mat lying as though out of tedium and by her lay a plate, in which there were, remains of something she had been eating. He noticed that as usual it was a pinguid dish and the oil consumption more than necessary. Anna saw him coming in but took no heed of him. He entered in undulated as though he liked it. He came in sat opposite her and prattled about the various topics to her like the weather, which he hadn't done in years now.
After some time he told her about his situation, not knowing whether she was listening or not. He told her that he will take care to recompense for all that Hen rick had done for him. He said that he would now be in a position to help others and also be able to show clemency, his smarminess was clearly visible in his tone.
Part 9
Anna listened to him carefully, taking in every word he was saying. She realized that his current situation was ineluctable. She knew that Samuel was diffident and that is why he had returned home, to seek comfort and help. She knew Samuel would never accept it .There were certain salient features of Samuel that Anna had known in their 7 years of marriage. His munificence, agility in his work, love for nature, and always ready to help others and show mercy.
Anna did not say anything, she was thoughtful. She knew that Samuel had hated her from the time he had known that she was not a scholar and he had never let her tell him the truth.
Yes, she was not learned to the extent of being a scholar, but had attended school until she could .She had always loved to read and everybody said that her penmanship was beautiful, with many curlicues.
But due to lack of money she had could not attend school. She had seen Samuel first time when she was walking along with her former teacher and he was staring at her from far. She did not like him much then but her parents had agreed for their marriage in spite of knowing that Samuel was uneducated .for a next few days she had been in chagrin, as she had to marry a guy who not only did not match her standards but also she did not know him at all. Though she had started to Like him after marriage but after few days when she had told about not being very thoroughly educated all communication between them had ceased.
Suddenly she heard a cry. She recognized it as Samuel's and ran towards the source of it.
When she reached the spot she saw that Samuel was lying beneath the logs that were kept in the back yard. Her mind seemed to stop working for a second, But then she immediately realized the convolution of the situation and ran towards the corner where the few tools were kept. She found the peavey there and immediately began moving the pile of logs away. It took her some time but after some when she had successful done it she helped Samuel into the house.
When they reached in, she saw that his hand was covered with small milia which seemed to be hindering him too to move his hand.
Convolution: difficulty, complication
Part 10
Anna was worried about the milia she saw on his arm. She settled him on a chair nearby and left immediately to call for a Doctor…she could not find the doctor but on the way back she saw the lady who made medicines from herbs .she went to her immediately and told her about the milia on Samuel's arm. The woman though for a moment and then asked her to bring the leaves of the plant which had lanceolate leaves just beside her house. Anna ran and got the plants leaves the lady had asked her. On the way back she bruised herself against the door and her skirt stained with grease…she knew it was indelible and her only skirt could not be worn again, But she had no time for it. She gave the leaves to the lady, who began making a paste out of it and also with her jejune talk about her talent of making medicines. Though Anna wanted to be grateful to her and would have listened to her but the only thing on her mind was Samuel .she knew Samuel was the medial of her life .and his illness made her realize that…
In some time the paste was ready and Anna hurried back home with the though how will she be able to persuade Samuel to use it as he was pedantic about the medicines he used.
Part 11
Anna reached back home and saw that Samuel was lying on the bed. She didn't know how to persuade him to have the medicines. Samuel descried Anna standing in the door way. Anna looked at him and staring at her and entered .She handed over the medicines to him and started to narrate the happenings in an assuage way. Samuel didn't like Anna bringing the herbs for him and depreciated her hard work and patience. He even Razed the stool that was lying next to him. He Inveighed her by telling her about her inability to do any work properly. Anna stood their quietly. Though she had never hesitated to be loud and scold him, but today she didn't want to. In his absence she had realized that he was impeccable part of her life and now she will make sure and give their relation another chance.
Part 12
Samuel was shocked at Anna's behavior. His wife who was usually obstreperous looked lugubrious. Samuel was confused over Anna's behavior. He had never known that Anna could be so sensitive towards him. Anna shook her head, and without a word moved about the house clearing it up. He saw that there was a grace in her lissome, slender form which he had always failed to notice. Anna was talking to him, like they had been married yesterday, about the work of neighbors, of her pastoral life and how much she loved it. Samuel felt as if she had always been of jocund nature but he had failed to realize it. He thought weather he had come to the netherworld and this lady in front of him was the lady he had always wanted as his wife, but soon his thoughts were broken by a knock on the door. Anna opened the door. He could see that there was a man who was wearing a lumberjack of blue color. The way Anna was talking to him, it was palpable that there was some bad news he was reporting.
Palpable: obvious, clear, plain.
