| Actor and singer Vasundhara Das performed live on the last day of the Mumbai festival.
"Though I'm originally from Bangalore, I've made Mumbai my home recently.
And I was honoured to be called to give a live performance at the Mumbai festival. I never expected that the crowd turnout would be so large, and I really enjoyed myself singing and taking in the ambience of the festival," gushes the beauty from down south.
Vasundhara, who was joined on stage by Abhishek Bachchan, had the audience enthralled with her hits Rabba Rabba, Dekho Deewano and Salaam.
On shifting
On her move from Bangalore to Mumbai, she says, "The Hindi film industry is here. It's more convenient for me to be in Mumbai, so that I can reach any studio or shooting location with a short notice. When I used to be in Bangalore, I had to constantly dash to and from Mumbai, and used to spend a lot of time commuting. That has stopped, and I am able to concentrate better on my work." Performing in Mumbai
Though it was a live performance, Vasundhara did not show any signs of strain. "I've been doing a lot of live performances, and I enjoy singing and dancing on stage. Singing for an album is a different experience, but it is much tougher to be on stage, live. One has to have high levels of energy and stamina," she says. Ek Dastak
Vasundhara, after being seen in Monsoon Wedding and Hey Ram, will soon feature in Ek Dastak, which is a story about an income tax officer. "I'm also doing a difficult role in a Malayalam film, where I play a mentally challenged person," she adds.
Why is it that thought she sings only a couple of songs each year, they invariably become hits? "Well, I pick and choose my songs. And I guess I've been fortunate to get the right songs," says Vasundhara. |
