OK posting this here will probably generate a lot of criticism from all you die hard Indian TV fans, but that is why I think this is the perfect place to post this message.
I haven't lived in India for 6 years so havent watched that much of indian TV, but after some youtubing today I see the shows have not changed a bit. While the country is moving towards globalization (and don't confuse that with westernization - 2 different things though they affect each other), these shows are probably playing a big role in restricting the majority of our population from growing mentally. Every show seems to revolve around the same theme - mostly to do with women - getting your daughters married, then their husband cheating on them, being treated like shit by everyone, but be the sacrificing indian girl who will do anything to protect her family or some crap along those lines - I dont know..haven't watched them in a while to paint the exact story here. But all I seem to see if women crying.
If you want to progress, be successful - you need to start watching stuff that mentally stimulates - not stuff that fills your head with fake and typical concepts of "Indian culture". That's what these shows are trying to sell isn't it. But is Indian culture all about marriage and family? I'm not downtalking the importance of family, but there is more to life. If you guys want to progress, you need to start expanding your mental horizon.
This message was written just out of frustration, so I don't have a specific motive behind this. What I'm trying to say, I don't know. Not sure if I have even made a point. I just saw a clip of rakhi sawants marriage - which I must say the producers have done a smart job of indianizing a western show (The bachelorette). But heres the difference, people that watch the bachelorette know it is fake and the contestants (you could call them that) are made fun of, tagged as dumb people, and not taken seriously. The way these indian shows are marketed - these contestants become household names, and people relate to them, and have this false sense that they are like family.
Does anyone share this frustration? I probably won't find anyone on this forum, but it was sad when I googled to find articles written on this topic, there were none. So I thought posting here might atleast show me what you guys think.
