Feroz Khan - Bollywood’s style Icon !!

He stepped into Bollywood straight out of a Western. It's tough to believe Feroz Khan, who towered over the silver screen, has passed on. Said his brother Sanjay Khan: "The lion who roared is no more."

Feroz was born in Bangalore to an Afghan father and an Iranian mother in 1939. He moved to Mumbai in 1959 and made his acting debut with Didi in 1960. His early years were full of struggle, but the Pathan got his due with Oonche Log, followed by Arzoo. He played second lead in both films and then in Aadmi Aur Insaan and Mela, co-starring Sanjay.

Always known to live life kingsize, Khan launched his production house with Apradh with Mumtaz as his heroine. He then made Dharamatma, his interpretation of The Godfather, with Hema Malini. It was the first Hindi film to be shot in Afghanistan.

Then on, there was no looking back for Feroz both as an actor and director. Qurbani (1980) was the biggest hit of his career. "He introduced a fabulous blend of western and Indian music with this film. He also launched Nazia Hasan and Biddu with it. The song Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye became a rage," recalls Sanjay.

Adds Anil Kapoor, Feroz's co-star in Jaanbaaz and Welcome: "He was a great showman — very passionate and extremely generous — a true pathan."

Feroz took an 11-year break from movie making, only to return with Prem Aggan, where he launched Fardeen which bombed. Even while on holiday from work, he continued with horse racing and billiards, his favourite hobbies.

In 2003, Khan launched Celina Jaitley with Jaanasheen.

Feroz Khan, breathed his last in the wee hours of Monday at his farmhouse in Bengaluru, was buried in the presence of a large gathering.

The body of Feroz was kept at the farmhouse, with the media barred from entering it as the family wanted to be left alone to grieve. His body was later carried from the farmhouse to the cemetery at Johnson market in the city, where the last rites
