They always say - not all of us are like this.... Only a small percentage, just a few rotten apples ... Etc etc.
Even Smit's case is one of the rarest yet it's how a positive image is built.. now imagine many such cases of Indians like Smit saving people instead of killing them and you'll understand how that positive image will be reinforced in people's mind. Same happens for a negative image too, ex - when a certain community role is ascertained in many terrorist incidents even if the individuals actually committing those acts are just a small percentage of that community.
That is why the onus is on that community itself to create or destroy that image.
