Chapter 1 — A Stranger in Palankhet
Palankhet's mountains were covered in a soft morning mist. Pine trees swayed in the cool breeze, and the winding roads disappeared into the clouds.
A car slowly made its way into the town.
Inside sat Maya Hooda, a beautiful young woman looking quietly through the window.
She held an old photograph close to her heart.
It was a picture of her late mother.
Maya had come to Palankhet for a vacation, but this was more than just a holiday. Her mother had spent some of the happiest years of her life here.
Maya wanted to discover those memories.
As the car entered the town, the song “Pardesi Pardesi” began playing softly.
The melancholy melody perfectly reflected Maya's loneliness as she looked at the unfamiliar mountains.
She touched her mother's photograph.
Maya: “Mamma... I finally came to the place you loved so much.”
She smiled through moist eyes.
Shipra's Hidden Plan
Back in the city, Maya's stepmother, Shipra, sat with Harshwardhan Hooda.
Shipra was beautiful and charming, but behind her pleasant smile lay a completely different intention.
She married Harshwardhan for his enormous wealth.
Maya was the biggest obstacle standing between Shipra and the fortune she wanted.
Shipra: “Maya is going to stay in Palankhet for how long?”
Harshwardhan: “A few weeks. She wanted to visit the places her mother loved.”
Shipra forced a smile.
Shipra: “Let her enjoy herself.”
But after Harshwardhan left, her smile disappeared.
Shipra: “Enjoy your vacation, Maya. When you come back, everything will be different.”
Maya Meets Arjun
The next morning, Maya came downstairs at the hotel.
She wanted to explore Palankhet.
The manager pointed toward several taxis.
Manager: “Madam, if you want someone who knows every road and every corner of Palankhet, hire Arjun Hindustani.”
Maya looked toward the parking area.
A young man was leaning against an old jeep, eating an apple.
His clothes were simple, his hair slightly untidy, and his smile completely carefree.
The manager shouted:
Manager: “Arjun!”
Arjun looked up.
Arjun: “Ji?”
He walked toward them.
The moment he saw Maya, he stopped.
For a few seconds, he stared.
Maya noticed.
Maya: “What?”
Arjun quickly looked away.
Arjun: “Nothing.”
Maya: “Then why were you staring at me?”
Arjun thought for a moment.
Arjun: “I was checking whether you were the passenger.”
Maya raised an eyebrow.
Maya: “And?”
Arjun smiled.
Arjun: “Unfortunately... you are.”
Maya looked offended.
Maya: “Unfortunately?”
Arjun immediately corrected himself.
Arjun: “Fortunately.”
Maya tried to suppress a smile.
Maya: “I need a driver.”
Arjun proudly pointed at his jeep.
Arjun: “You've found one.”
Maya looked at the old jeep.
Maya: “That thing?”
Arjun looked at his jeep.
Arjun: “Please don't insult her.”
Maya: “Her?”
Arjun: “Yes. She's my oldest companion.”
Maya laughed.
Arjun smiled.
He had already discovered that making Maya laugh was going to become his favorite thing.
Their First Ride
Maya placed her luggage in the jeep and sat down.
Arjun started the engine.
The jeep rattled loudly.
Maya immediately looked nervous.
Maya: “Is that normal?”
Arjun: “Very normal.”
Another strange noise came from the engine.
Maya stared at him.
Maya: “Are you sure?”
Arjun nodded confidently.
Arjun: “Absolutely.”
The jeep moved.
Maya held onto the side of her seat.
Maya: “I think I'm going to die.”
Arjun laughed.
Arjun: “Don't worry. If the jeep dies, I'll carry you.”
Maya looked at him.
Maya: “You?”
Arjun: “Of course.”
Maya: “You can't even carry that suitcase.”
Arjun glanced at her luggage.
Arjun: “That's different. Your suitcase doesn't smile at me.”
Maya burst out laughing.
Arjun grinned.
He put on the music.
Maya said, No, this one is not good."
Arjun put on another, but he understood from Maya's expression that she didn't like it.
Then Maya heard the song, but it suddenly stopped.
Maya: Why did you stop this?
Arjun: I thought you wouldn't like it, since it's me singing.
Maya: No, continue. Your voice is better.
While driving, Arjun kept singing.

Maya looked out at the mountains.
Arjun secretly glanced at her.
Neither said anything.
But something had already begun.
The Mountain View
Arjun drove Maya to a beautiful hilltop overlooking the entire valley.
Maya stepped out.
The sight took her breath away.
She walked toward the edge.
The wind blew through her hair.
Arjun stood behind her.
Maya: “It's beautiful.”
Arjun: “I told you.”
Maya: “You didn't tell me it would be this beautiful.”
Arjun smiled.
Arjun: “Palankhet likes to surprise people.”
Maya looked at him.
Maya: “And you?”
Arjun: “Me?”
Maya: “Do you like surprising people?”
Arjun grinned.
Arjun: “Only beautiful people.”
Maya immediately looked away.
Maya: “You're impossible.”
Arjun: “Thank you.”
Maya: “That wasn't a compliment.”
Arjun: “I'll still accept it.”
Arjun Notices Maya
Maya walked ahead, her hair blowing in the wind.
Arjun watched her for a moment.
Arjun smiled to himself.
Arjun: “God certainly took his time making you.”
Maya turned around.
Maya: “Did you say something?”
Arjun immediately pretended innocence.
Arjun: “Me? No.”
Maya: “You were talking.”
Arjun: “I was talking to the mountains.”
Maya: “The mountains?”
Arjun: “Yes.”
Maya: “And what did they say?”
Arjun smiled.
Arjun: “They said you're prettier than the view.”
Maya's cheeks turned pink.
Maya: “You're such a flirt.”
Arjun: “I'm a driver.”
Maya: “Same thing?”
Arjun: “In Palankhet, sometimes.”
Maya shook her head, laughing.
Her Mother's Photograph
Later, Maya took out her mother's photograph.
Arjun noticed her expression change.
Arjun: “What's wrong?”
Maya: “Nothing.”
She showed him the photograph.
Maya: “This is my mother.”
Arjun looked at it respectfully.
Arjun: “She looks happy.”
Maya smiled sadly.
Maya: “She was.”
She pointed toward the background.
Maya: “I think this picture was taken somewhere around here.”
Arjun studied it carefully.
His eyes widened.
Arjun: “I know this place.”
Maya looked at him.
Maya: “Really?”
Arjun: “The old lake.”
Maya's face brightened.
Maya: “Can you take me there?”
Arjun smiled.
Arjun: “Of course.”
Maya: “Thank you.”
Arjun: “Don't thank me yet.”
Maya: “Why?”
Arjun: “The road to the lake is terrible.”
Maya laughed.
Maya: “I'm starting to think every road in Palankhet is terrible.”
Arjun: “Maybe.”
He smiled.
Arjun: “But with me, you'll reach everywhere.”
Maya looked at him.
For the first time since arriving in Palankhet, she felt completely at ease.
A Small Beginning
That evening, Arjun dropped Maya back at the hotel.
Maya got out of the jeep.
Maya: “Goodnight, Arjun.”
Arjun: “Goodnight, madam.”
She took a few steps toward the entrance.
Then she turned around.
Maya: “Arjun?”
Arjun: “Yes?”
Maya: “Tomorrow... take me to the lake.”
Arjun smiled.
Arjun: “I'll be here.”
Maya smiled back.
She entered the hotel.
Arjun watched her disappear through the doors.
He shook his head with a grin.
Arjun: “What happened to me?”
Inside her room, Maya opened her mother's old diary.
A faded note fell out.
She read it carefully:
“Palankhet will always hold a piece of my heart.”
Maya looked toward the window.
Far below, she could see Arjun's jeep driving away.
A tiny smile appeared on her face.
The opening strains of “Mujhe Pyaar Hua Allah Miyan” could accompany the playful, innocent ending.
Maya touched her mother's photograph.
Maya: “Maybe Palankhet has something waiting for me after all.”
Outside, Arjun drove through the winding mountain road, smiling for no reason.
Neither Maya nor Arjun understood what was happening yet.
But their journey had begun.
And Palankhet was about to become the place where two strangers slowly discovered love.
