Imtiaz Ali used this Rumi words in Rockstar, too. However reading all your posts, I got the feeling that in this movie, the sense is even more intense than in Rockstar.

Of course I know ❤️ I'm a big admirer of Rockstar too. There's something about forbidden love that makes it inexplicably desirable to me lol.

I think those Rumi lines hold true for both Heer-Jordan and Raya-Nadia, but in very different ways.

In Rockstar, the idea is explicit. The entire film is built around Heer and Jordan..their love, separation, longing and destruction. You are constantly aware that this is the heart of the story.

With Toxic, Toxic is much more restrained. Raya and Nadia's love is embedded within a much larger story of crime, family, guilt and psychological destruction even though they are one of the most important part emotionally And the film doesn't spoon-feed their love to you. It leaves little fragments-looks, silences, touches, conversations and expects you to put them together.You have to read it through glances, pauses, fragments of dialogue and the choices they make...

Maybe that's why, for me, the Rumi idea feels even more haunting here.Toxic makes you quietly discover two people who found their own little world in each other and then lost it leaving you with "what ifs" ...

Haan..... it looks like a fanfiction....which I would love to read one day 😂

But when it comes to movies ...I would like to think , analyse and make theories on the basis of what they have shown on screen lol ..

You know one fun thing....

I remember when Toxic's one of the first promotional material i.e Raya's introduction teaser had dropped..and he made his entry with that "Daddy is home" phrase, I was soo irritated..It appeared ridiculous to me...felt like pure swagger,sounded like pure massy, brainrot marketing..almost meme material..

But after seeing Raya's entire journey, it becomes strangely loaded...He is the father who spent his entire life carrying the guilt of failing his child, finally coming HOME to the memory of him...It's about a father returning to the emotional wreckage he left behind.

Raya entered the film saying, "Daddy is home," as if it's a declaration of arrogant power.

But by the end, when you understand Raya's relationship with Ticket, his guilt, his inability to protect his son, and that desperate longing to undo the past,you realise that in the very end he was finally HOME as a DADDY..not the gangster, not the brother, not the conqueror, just a father finally reunited with his son, even if only in his fractured mind.

The same line goes from swagger to tragedy.

Entire movie is filled with such lines that appear massy and brainrot on surface but gradually you re-discover it through the context of the movie...

Really He entered as Raya announcing his arrival.

He ended as a father finally coming home. 💔

I was watching few Raya and Nadia reels....

And I realised that car scene between Raya and Nadia is so much more layered to me the more I think about it.

Nadia was furious because Raya called her a "bitch" to protect her from the enemy. But the reason it hurt her so much is that, for Nadia, intent couldn't erase the wound. She slapped him and told him that if an empathetic woman had raised him, he would never have spoken about another woman that way. Then she questions Ganga's influence...how Ganga is fulfilling her own ambitions through him and turning him into a man of slaughter.

And I honestly think somewhere inside, Raya knew she wasn't entirely wrong.

That's probably why he could not hear it.

The way he tried to strangle her , His reaction wasn't just anger at Nadia insulting Ganga. It felt like the rage of someone whose deepest psychological defence has just been touched. Because Ganga wasn't merely his sister. She was almost his mother. She occupied the emotional position of a mother, caregiver, protector, architect of his ambitions and, in many ways, the person whose approval defines his sense of self.She raised him when they were still children, protected him, gave him a purpose and became the centre of his emotional universe.

So questioning Ganga becomes almost synonymous with questioning the foundation of his entire existence.

Raya can command an entire criminal world, but he had never learned how to have an adult emotional conversation. He was emotionally stunted in childhood, and the world only taught him how to survive..not how to process, communicate or challenge the people he loves.

He didn't know how to disagree with Ganga without feeling disloyal to her.

And Nadia, being Nadia, refused to back down.

When Raya puts the gun to her forehead, she looks straight into his eyes without even a flicker of fear and told him that wounds caused by words can be deeper.

Something broke inside him.He fired the bullets everywhere. Smashed the bottle. His own hand started bleeding.

And suddenly the violence had nowhere to go except back into himself.

Then Nadia came back.

She hugged him from behind while his palm is still bleeding.

And that is why their first intimacy feels so significant to me. It isn't simply desire after a confrontation. She has just confronted the darkest part of him and still chosen to reach the human being underneath it.

As I keep saying that Nadia didn't reward his violence; she reached the wounded man underneath it...This scene showed that literally and beautifully ❤️

Maybe that's what Nadia could have eventually given Raya...not separation from Ganga, not a rebellion against her, but the emotional space to finally grow up.

I never wanted Raya and Ganga to have a bitter confrontation either. Their bond is too sacred for me to want that. I wanted something much simpler.

An adult conversation.

For Raya to someday tell Ganga:

"I know what you did for me. I know you saved me. I will always be your brother. But I'm not that little boy anymore."

And for Ganga to finally see that loving him doesn't mean deciding everything for him.Ganga herself deserved to become a woman separate from being his protector..She also deserved to finally live her life as an individual and discover her happiness., to discover who she was when she wasn't busy saving her brother.

Perhaps Nadia could have been the bridge to that growth.

But that conversation never happened.

Ganga died before Raya could separate love from obedience. Nadia disappeared before Raya could learn vulnerability without guilt. And Raya was left carrying all three relationships inside him...the sister who made him, the woman who revealed him, and the son he failed...

Raya didn't need to choose between Ganga and Nadia.

He needed to become an adult capable of loving Ganga as a brother and Nadia as a partner.

That was the adulthood Raya never got the time or perhaps the emotional freedom..to reach.

There was one small consoling price for Raya in the story, that is- his son Adam's love for him....even at the very end Adam was crying, physically fighting Melissa, shouting...not to leave his father...despite him, as a 10 year old child witnessing Raya's weird behaviors for a while (talking to himself, fighting with himself etc etc)...it shows at least in the 2nd chance he got, Raya did something right to show that he cares for his child
