Getting more defined for something one got gifted with (and not did oneself) is quite challenging the own personality. As a very intelligent woman she would have learned how to project herself when choosing the professional route she chose. That doesn't mean that she didn't use her beauty to get what she wanted.

Becoming a star and 'talk of the town' almost overnight with the Bhansali-Salman movie didn't do her really good (when looking at the developpment)... Imo, the Hindi filmindustry made her the superstar, but the Tamil one gave her the value as an actress.

Her affair with Salman ruined her reputation.

She lacked the spark / the x factor to be a good actress. Not salman, not any relationship is the reason behind people not taking her as an actress seriously.

The hostility yes when you see someone who is not so good being appreciated only because of her looks people tend/tempt to turn hostile. simple human psychology.

Ash gets criticized and the man who physically assaulted her, who became the reason she was thrown out of films is celebrated as Being Human...
