Kanyadaan is stepping into the husband's Gotra from the parental Gotra.

There was no concept of divorce or re-marriage and hence it may be safe to assume that with divorce being in place, Kanyadaan would be done.

I may be wrong, wasn't the Kanyadaan done by Gayatri?
