While the Super Kings enjoy a solid record at home, they have been beaten thrice in succession since the 2023 season. Their biggest trade ahead of the 2026 auctions - Sanju Samson - doesn't enjoy a great record either. But so does Shreyas Iyer while Yuzvendra Chahal loves bowling here. The 2026 T20 WC saw high scores at this venue and we could be in for another batting friendly surface today. Toss and team sheets coming up shortly..

For the Punjab Kings, there is a sense that their time is now. Finalists last year, well-stocked again this season, and boasting a clearly-defined identity - a far cry from the uncertainty of years gone by. For the Chennai Super Kings, a fear that theirs may have elapsed, and that a tussle awaits. Not with the world. But themselves. On where this serial-winning and odds-defying franchise is headed. On what their philosophy is and should be, and on what they must do to not get overrun by this frenetic format.

Pitch and Conditions: "Good evening here in Chennai, hosting its first game. Let's start with the dimensions first because this is a bigger venue. 66 on my left, 67 on my right, straight boundary of 78. I mean, that's the reason the spinners have done well traditionally at this venue. Yeah, it's a pleasant evening, no doubt about it. Look, I think it's an absolute belter. I think it's a batter's paradise. I don't think it's going to matter too much whether you win the toss and bat first or bat second. I can't see too much dew setting in. Again, if we have a look at the pitch, it looks a little bit dry under this grass. But I'll tell you what it is, Deep, It's rock hard. I think the ball is going to come on nicely. I think the bowlers are in for a tough night, unfortunately. Maybe change your pace through the middle of the innings and try and get some wickets up front with that brand-new ball. I would second that. This looks like a really good surface to bat on. Should help both the teams and their six-hitting prowess, especially the Punjab Kings batters. But I still say, win the toss, chase," reckon Deep Dasgupta and Michael Clarke.

Nilashish: "No.5 T20I AR in the world is finding it difficult to break into this PBKS team, such is the OS line up!!I'm a Die Hard KKR fan but really want this PBKS team to win this year, as there may be Mega Auction in a couple of years, and it'd be difficult to keep so many Uncapped superstars in the same team. Love this PBKS team for it's astonishing and unparalleled Uncapped talent. " -- Sticking to that theme, CSK could do with a pace-bowling all-rounder in their side. Don't expect PBKS to change things tonight, though, meaning Omarzai might have to miss out again.
