11.6W

MANI TO GIRI, OUT

Sliced to cover point!! Just when it had finally started looking good for UPW, the partnership is broken. Mani tosses the ball up nicely, and goes full and wide-ish of off. Giri goes driving away from her body, and ends up finding Shafali right on the edge of the circle

Shipra Giri c Shafali Verma b Mani 9 (8b 1x4 0x6) SR: 112.5

UPW-W 74/6 after 12 overs

Taken at mid-off!! A well-judged catch by Mani. She turned halfway to her left, and kept her eyes on the ball, which dropped from over her left shoulder.

Nandni Sharma to Shikha Pandey, FOUR, slower delivery on middle, Shikha picks it up from the hand and goes for the pull. Picks the gap and collects four.

UPW require a late cameo from Shikha Pandey to post 122, with Shikha contributing 23 in 13 balls. Their innings had hardly got going earlier, after DC opted to bowl. Shaikh showed shades of a good knock, but didn't last long by falling on 22 in 14 deliveries. Deepti got a start as well, but Kapp, Henry and Charani shared seven wickets for DC to restrict UPW in a must-win match. If DC lose, though, their campaign is done. Join us for the chase soon.

Chinelle Henry: Yeah, absolutely. Once we got that early wicket, especially someone like Meg Lanning first ball, the whole group was buzzing. From that moment on, it was just about staying in the moment and building pressure. We definitely had our discussions beforehand. You can’t review things too early, but we spoke about trying something different. We know how important Meg has been for them this season, so the idea was to challenge her early. We felt trying something different could work, and thankfully it paid off. Yeah, definitely. As you saw, the first ball was the one that went the other way. That’s something I’ve been working on a lot. I don’t think many people expected an inswinger first ball, but there’s been a lot of work that’s gone into the preparation. We knew how important this game was, so it was just about executing. I’m really pleased I could give the team that kind of start. It’s still cricket, and we know how the game can change. As a batting unit, we’re going to take this very seriously. Hopefully, by the end of the game, we’ll be in the playoffs.

Amit: "How wise is it to review wide in first few overs of the game when your target is only 123? Max you gain is extra ball vs potentially left with only one remaining review." --- Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
