KBC is a different beast. They sell ad slots before the show even hits air, get title & associate sponsors, brand ads within the show. Amitabh Bachchan is the reason why premium brands are associated with the show because man still has a fanbase.

They make money from digital ads that air on the app when people play KBC play along, from the YouTube channel officially run by Sony/KBC. When you see a movie promoted on KBC, that’s not free. The smaller movies actually pay for getting a chance to play with AB to promote their content. The bigger movies with popular superstars promise extra revenue as more people tune in to watch the show for their favourites.

As for prize money, smaller amounts are paid for by the channel itself. The bigger prizes above a certain amount, I think starting 25 lakhs or so are paid for by insurance companies. It’s the same format as the OG show that inspired it. How the insurance companies manage to pay that amount? From revenue they earn by selling us their products, investments in companies that includes the likes of Sony.

Even the contestants are required to pay a certain amount of money for taxes despite the amount they win. I believe it’s 33 percent.
