Finally watched this brilliant film. Yami owns it like a pro — an outstanding performance! Her hard work is visible in every frame. Her perfection in capturing the character’s diction, innocence, vulnerability, and strong determination to fight for justice is remarkable.

I went to watch it just for her, and I strongly recommend this one.

She plays a character who is not well-educated in life, but in reality, she is highly educated. So, intentionally mispronouncing English words must have been quite difficult — yet she delivered a flawless performance as Shazia Banu Begum. In one scene, between Urdu words, she pronounced “contract” exactly the way an uneducated person would, which was brilliant.

A few more thoughts:

The film is based on a novel, and the makers have stayed true to the source. They’ve ensured that no community or cultural practice is misrepresented.

I also learned some new things about Muslim culture. Although the music wasn’t particularly great, it keeps you hooked along with the story.

Emmy doesn’t have much to do but is good enough in a supporting role.
