Episode 4

Parvati as the bus was moving thought about her school Headmaster's struggle to get her scholarship. He sent letter to educational department with her details and after one week they got a letter telling they can provide her with admission fees only but they cannot provide the complete educational fee. As said by government within next 4 days Parvati's bank account was credited with her admission fees. She went to AJ institute of technology and paid her admission fee. Parvati thinking that day she took a deep breath were she thought about her headmaster's struggle to arrange for her rest of the scholarship fee.

FLASHBACK

Parvati(with a worried face) : Did you see sir for a woman to study in this society how much struggles are needed to be undergone?

Headmaster : society is not changed Parvati but for that you should not give up. Somehow we got the admission fee from government itself. There are so many big companies who used to sponsor some part of their profit to education, illness,or in social activities. I have written letter to all the possible companies like that so anyone will surely help.

Parvati(wiping her tears): I won't forget all your struggles for me sir.

Headmaster: come on Parvati woman like you should study and keep growing, society bars should never stop you. I am sure you will get your scholarship and definitely you will do your B.tech and M.tech

Parvati: Yes sir let's hope for the best.

Parvati thought about the days were her father was scolding her for trying to study in her life he was kept on telling she cannot get her scholarship and he was telling her that next should be her marriage. Now she closed her eyes and thought about the day when she got her scholarship.

FLASHBACK

It was almost 15 days were Parvati was Washing clothes in the backyard of her house. Her mother brought her phone to her.

Jaya: Parvati your phone is kept on ringing quickly talk to the person who is calling you.

Parvati washing her hands and went to her mother and got her phone were as she saw the phone number and getting it's her Headmaster and she immediately picked up her phone.

Parvati: good morning sir.

Headmaster: It's really really a good morning Parvati you have got a sponsor and they are ready to sponsor your complete education.

Parvati(almost had happy tears) : sir I am not able to believe it really I am out of the world sir. Who is ready to sponsor my education?

Headmaster: Parvati I am a teacher I want all my students to raise in their life. I did it to my student so you should not tell thank you to your guru. The day you Come and tell me know sir I have completed my M.tech that only will be your real thank you to me.

Parvati: haan I will do it sir.

Headmaster: Mmm good. Tk share your bank passbook front page In whatsapp. I will share you the contact number of the person who you need to contact for requesting your fees.

Parvati: okay sir(the phone was disconnected on the other end)

Parvati taking phone from her ear and saw her mother who was seeing her.

Jaya: mm you got your scholarship know?

Parvati: haan maa I got a sponsor who can sponsor my studies till M.tech.

Jaya(came to parvati and caressing her cheek): Parvati as I said before Papa is willing to do your marriage only. I am not educated to your level and all what I know was women will go to school and the day she complete her school next will come her marriage. I married your papa till today I obey all his words. Not only me all our family members obey his words. We have set of rules in our family and in that rule one of the rule is once women finish her school her marriage will happen.

Parvati: Maa but.. (before she tells the next word)

Jaya: I can see the longing for education in your eyes Parvati. That longing in your eyes is only taking you to the level of talking against your papa for your college and scholarship. I don't know how much successful you will be In your next step for education. I don't know when your papa will bring the groom and tell you to marry but(with a light smile) : If you fight against this society barriers and study and succeed too I will be Happy to see your success parvati.

Parvati(with Happy smile hugging her mother): Thank you maa

Jaya too hugged her with happiness.

Parvati thought about Sharing her passbook front page to her Headmaster and her headmaster giving the contact number of administration person in WE foundation. She thought about WE foundation paying all her college fees whenever she called and informed them. She thought about her travelling of 100 km up and down to her college everyday.
She thought about the day she said to her father about her scholarship.

Raman(seeing her) : okay you got your scholarship and seat in college. You said you will travel and go to college and come back. Do whatever you wish but the day I get a groom for you that day I will definitely marry you to him and send you with him I won't mind about your studies.

she thought about her father talking to her with anger only from the day she started to go to college. She thought about her father bringing almost 4 grooms in this past 5 years and she thought about all the groom family people who came they themselves rejected her for less dowry from her father end. She thought about taking deep breath of relief whenever the groom family rejected her due to dowry.
She thought about the day when no one came from her family to college on the day when she received her gold medal for B.tech. when she showed her medal her mother was Happy and she appreciated her without hearing to her father. But her father and brother were not happy they felt her that she is more studied woman now.

Parvati(in thoughts): somehow finished my B.Tech and 1st year M.Tech. Some how If I finish the 2nd year too I am successful only. even if papa brings any new groom too they also should reject me based on dowry like previous grooms. Please help me in that alone God.

As she was thinking it the bus stopped at the last stop were that was the place were Parvati need to get down. She got up from the seat and she got down from the bus. She now started to walk towards her home

Parvati(in thoughts): Now I am going to be in semester holidays from today. Papa will get anger whenever he see me because one month I am going to be in home only.

Parvati entered the house were she saw her mother cleaning the house.

Parvati: Maa

Jaya: parvati came back from college?

Parvati:haan maa

Jaya: How you wrote your exam?

Parvati(with smile) : haan wrote well maa.

Jaya(she came to Parvati) : Parvati sorry

Parvati(with a not understanding face): why are you asking Sorry maa? That too to me?

Jaya: you told me in your previous study you got medal but due to your papa's words I was not able to come and see you getting medal. But this time if you get medal again know I will come and see you in the stage.

Parvati: mm okay Maa but for this you don't want to ask sorry and all. Without knowing to Papa you are supporting me know that is more than enough maa to be frank you are my backbone in this struggle.

Jaya smiling to her and pinched Parvati's cheek with affection.

Parvati: let me wash my face and come and then let me help you in cleaning.

NEXT DAY

It was morning 10 o clock were Raman was having his breakfast.

In the next 5 minutes Parvati brought roti for Raman and served it in his plate.

Jaya(who was hearing their conversation walked and came out of the kitchen in a loud tone) : Parvati this is how you will talk to papa? Ask sorry to him.

Raman: studied so much know that why she is showing her attitude.

Parvati(seeing Raman) : sorry papa(telling it without waiting for his answer she walked from there)

15 DAYS LATER

Raman(came inside the house with a happy smile): Jaya jaya

Jaya(who was putting clothes in the rope for drying hearing Raman voice): Ramanji.

Raman(seeing Parvati who was also putting the clothes for drying in the rope a glance and seeing jaya) : see a alliance came for Parvati. Our neighbour Raju is there know to him I have Already said about seeing groom for parvati and in his relation he has got a groom. Raju said about groom to me and talked to groom parents also and arranged for a meet with them. They will come by tomorrow evening to see Parvati. Tell her to be ready when the groom is Coming.

Raman: I talked to Raju regarding dowry Raju is telling that they won't demand dowry.

Jaya(with worried face): parvati

Parvati(with tears) : That's it know maa all my dreams are going to end.

Jaya made Parvati ready by wearing a Blue color Saree and blouse. She made parvati to make a light make up. It was evening 5 o clock were the groom and his family arrived at Parvati's house. Raman welcomed them with happy smile and joining his hands.

Jaya went to kitchen and made the coffee ready and keeping coffee tumblers in tray and she gave it in the hands of Parvati.

Jaya: go and give it to everyone who are sitting in the hall.

Parvati walked and came to the hall were she was able to see one middle aged man and one middle aged woman and a teenage girl sitting in the hall. She was able to see a person sitting in the separate chair and she somewhat assumed that he is the groom without liking to see his face she didn't see him.

Raman(seeing Parvati with tray And showing her to them) : My daughter Parvati patel(Seeing Parvati) : give coffee to all Parvati.

Parvati like a lifeless body walked and went and gave coffee to them. She didn't see the groom face without seeing him she just gave the coffee and she came back and stood behind Raman.

Middle aged woman: To your neighbour Raju bhaiya only I told about seeing bride for my son that time only he said about your daughter and somehow Raju bhaiya talking to you and me and arranged for this meet. (Seeing Parvati and seeing Raman) : We like your daughter Parvati so much. Our son don't want any dowry and we will take care of marriage expenses. Are you ready to give your daughter to my son?

Parvati hearing this word lost all hope in her life.

Middle aged lady: My name is Ishwari Parekh (showing the middle aged man next to her) : This is my husband Jeydev Parekh (showing teenage girl): this is my daughter sona parekh and (showing the person sitting in separate chair) : He is my son and groom "Adidev Parekh"

Were this was the moment were now Parvati loosing all the hope in her life completely and saw the man sitting in the chair were he was surely a handsome man to her eyes but due to her education getting to be a question mark she was having a not liking face seeing the groom. She was getting anger on him for coming in her life to spoil her studies.

The pressure to not study too much was so enormous. One almost did not have a say.

It was almost a taboo for a woman to go to college and study. Many men even did not study to that level.

She go permission to start college. But the threat still looms that she will have to marry the guy if her father finds one.

She got rejected four times due to dowry. That is reason enough to educate the girls so they can earn for themselves and not have to depend on someone else.

She got a medal and the men did not appreciate it one bit. Rather, they looked down on it.

So sad that a father has to feel ashamed because he let his daughter study. It should be the other way around.
