Sure add me but not as a captain.

I'll probably be between 1 to 10 books this month as well.

Do I have to tell you if I'm participating in the Pride Prose Challenge or as I'm reading then I just mark a book as part of Pride Prose (if it happens to be one).

I'd like different people this time!

Also, I'm not going to be super active so I won't be captain of my team this time round!

Hinna, should I keep you mind for Captain?

Anyone else?

Hehe this time I would like to sit back and enjoy too, but in case if no one is volunteering, you can take a call! smiley9

Just highlight them in your RC log - that will work. But this has given me an idea - like MVP maybe we can have a siggy for the person who reads the maximum LGBTQ+ themed fiction. smiley16

Sign me up for the category of 1 to 5 books.

I have a few questions.

1) Do we need to read only queer fiction in June? Or can we mix queer fiction with other types of books?

2) What type of queer fiction is allowed? There's a murder mystery where a serial killer targets only gay men in Mumbai, and it revolves around the theme of homophobia. The protagonist is probably not gay or lesbian. However, the book touches on the theme of LGBTIQA+. Is this kind of book allowed? Or is it mandatory for the protagonist to be gay/lesbian/transgender/asexual?

3) Suppose, there's a ghost story, and the main focus of that story is on ghosts. But there's a gay or transgender person in the book as well. Is that allowed? Or does the main focus need to be on the theme of LGBTIQA+, and the ghost story needs to take a backseat?

4) Is reading non-fiction books on queer community allowed?

Lizzie, you'll make a new thread for the pride reviews thread na? Usmein maybe it's better if you keep a template that people can follow. It's straightforward, but phirbhi, aapka bhi kaam aasan hoga aur logo ka bhi

Sign me up for 11 to 20 books and if you don't find a captain, you can make me for one team

Yeah no separate sign up is required but if you do read a Pride themed book, you'll need to review it in the Pride Prose Reviews thread (that I'll post later) to get the badge.

And yeah you can highlight it in your regular log as well.

yes I'll add a template for the Reviews thread. I'll post it on May 30. Cool, I'll keep you in mind for Captain! Thanks, Shibz!

I have a few questions.

1) Do we need to read only queer fiction in June? Or can we mix queer fiction with other types of books? No you can have a mix. Just that for getting the badge, you need to log a minimum of 500 pages that is LGBTQIA+ themed.

2) What type of queer fiction is allowed? There's a murder mystery where a serial killer targets only gay men in Mumbai, and it revolves around the theme of homophobia. The protagonist is probably not gay or lesbian. However, the book touches on the theme of LGBTQA+. Is this kind of book allowed? No, it's not necessary that the protagonists belong to the community. Any character or the plot itself can be from the community. This book that you have outlined will be accepted. The review will need to mention how the book is LGBTQIA+ themed.

3) Suppose, there's a ghost story, and the main focus of that story is on ghosts. But there's a gay or transgender person in the book as well. Is that allowed? Or does the main focus need to be on the theme of LGBTQA+, and the ghost story needs to take a backseat?

No, it doesn't matter. As I've mentioned in the FAQs, you can still read any genre, it doesn't need to be romance only.

4) Is non-fiction books on queer community allowed? Yes

Thank you for the answers! But as for the third question, I wasn't asking about the genre. I wanted to ask, "Does the main focus need to be on the theme of LGBTQA+ community?" What if the ghost story is more prominent in the queer horror fiction and the queer part gets sidelined because of that. Is reading that kind of queer books acceptable as well?

Yes, even if its a sub-plot or a side character, it counts. But the caveat is that the review will need to bring this out - how exactly it relates to the Pride theme.
