Shreyas Iyer, who had won the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Kolkata Knight Riders last year before getting released by the franchise, will look to achieve that feat with perennial underachievers Punjab Kings. Bought by the Kings in the IPL auction for 26.75 crore, Iyer has a tough mountain to climb in Ahmedabad on Tuesday against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans.

Gill, meanwhile, will look to turn Gujarat’s fortunes around after a dismal campaign last year where they finished 8th after back to back appearances in the final in 2022 and 2023 . Their batting will heavily rely on Gill and Jos Buttler on top while they also boast of likes Sherfane Rutherford, Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan as well as all-rounders Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, and Mahipal Lomror who can bolster their batting. They also have a devastating pace attack with Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, Gerald Coetzee, and Ishant Sharma while Rashid and Sai Kishore will lead the spin attack.

Shubman's Ahmedabad den

Shubman Gill has a terrific record at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad -- 953 runs, 63.53 average and 159.36 strike-rate, four 50s and three 100s. Will he be able to continue the superb streak this season as well?

Kagiso Rabada desperately calls for a better balance between bat and ball as the frenetic hitting gets bigger and faster in the IPL. "You know, then you might as well call our sport Batting, and not Cricket. I have no issues with a few records being broken, that’s fine. High-scoring games are good, but so are low-scoring games. But you can’t have it tilting either side too dramatically, there needs to be a balance that is maintained between bat and ball," he tells in an interview

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, now with Gujarat Titans for IPL 2025, voiced his opinions on the increasing trend of high-scoring matches in the IPL, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balance between bat and ball. He believes that excessive focus on batting could diminish the essence of cricket.

Rabada believes that while the game should evolve, it shouldn't solely favor batsmen, stressing the necessity of maintaining a balance between batting and bowling to preserve the essence of cricket. He also acknowledged that high-scoring games are entertaining, but not if every match follows the same pattern. He added that cricket should not be reduced to just "batting," highlighting the importance of bowling and fielding.

Here are the top three player battles to watch out for in GT vs PBKS, Match 5 of IPL 2025:

3. Shubman Gill vs Yuzvendra Chahal

Shubman Gill is one of the top batters from this GT side and will also be opening the batting. His biggest challenge will be to counter the spin, as he has had his issues with the leg-spinners in the past as well.

Chahal, meanwhile, has an excellent record against the Gujarat Titans' opener, picking up his wicket three times while Gill has managed just 62 runs in 51 balls at a strike rate of 121. This will be an exciting battle between these two players.

2. Glenn Maxwell vs Kagiso Rabada

Glenn Maxwell has the ability to change the game in a few overs. He was in excellent form for Melbourne Stars in the recent BBL. He will be facing Rabada who has joined Gujarat Titans for IPL 2025. This is a very crucial battle in this match.

Kagiso Rabada has dismissed Glenn Maxwell two times in 20 balls, while Maxwell has managed just 23 runs at a strike rate of 115 in T20 format. The contest between the two will make the fans stay hooked onto their screens and get to know who gets the better of whom on Today.

1. Marcus Stoinis vs Rashid Khan

Marcus Stoinis is one of the top overseas played from this Punjab side. He will bat in the middle overs and be up against Rashid Khan, one of the best bowler in the world in this format, who is also the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket.

Rashid Khan has an excellent record against the Australian cricketer, picking up his wicket four times while Stoinis has managed just 51 runs in 44 balls at a strike rate of 115. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the Afghan spinner can contain Stoinis once again in today's clash at Motera.
