As for Rikshraj, there are two main versions of his story.
According to some of these versions, he once entered a grove men aren't supposed to enter and became a female vanara and, enamored by her beauty, Indra and then Surya Devs sired Bali and Sugreeva. He transformed back into a male after a while, when the boys started growing or after they were grown.
In other versions, Aruna takes a female form (Aruni) which captivated Indra after which Bali is born. When he relates this incident to Surya, the latter asks to see the female form which captivated Surya too and hence Sugreeva was born. They were left in Kishkinda and were later adopted by Rikshraj and taken care of Jambavan (who coaches them all).
In some versions, all these divine vanaras grew up in Kishkinda and the brothers Vali Sugreeva excelled among them all and were chosen to be leaders. Hanuman was said to be the best but he was completely disinterested in ruling, hence Vali and Sugreeva co-ruled the vanaras.
