Lord Rama divided his kingdom into two parts North Kosalas was given to luv with Sharavati as its capital and South Kosalas with Kushavati as its capital to Kusha.
In fact Ayodhya was abandoned.
Luv established the new capital of Sharavati in the Kosalas. Luv appears to have soon lost his capital, as we do not hear of him or his capital any more.
It was Kusha who continues the line. He returns to Ayodhya soon after his installation at Kushavati, after the deity of Ayodhya complains of her abandoned state and appeals to him to return. He later fights and subdues the Naga king Kumuda, and marries his sister Kumudvati, who ultimately gave birth to his heir Atithi.
Puranas provide a genealogical list from Kusha to Brihadbala, who was killed by Abhimanyu in the Mahabharata war (3138 BCE).
Rama was the 81st descendent of Ishkvaku dynasty .Kusha was 82nd.
Brihadbala was the 115th descendent (at Mahabharata time, Abhimanyu killed Brihadbala at age 125 years in Mahabharata War).
Average lifespan of a human kept dropping with each Yuga.
139th descendent was considered to be Siddharth who later on become Gautam Buddha.
We may not consider Siddhartha in kings list as he left kingdom at young age and his son Rahula became the next heir .
In the modern day Kushavati is called Kushinagar, a dist in Uttar Interestingly Buddha experienced his 1st enlightenment from this plce under Bodhi tree .
