I think he became more upset by hearing Shyam's name otherwise he was giving her the time to prove her innocence. But did he need that someone? His heart already ad accepted her but his mind was a different story.

Shyam's name was a catalyst to ager him yet his love for Khushi real and he married her for that, not for anything else.

This scene is heartbreaking but at the same time I look at it a turning point. A distance always brings hearts closer. You can see things clearly.

This scene has a different fan base and simply he wanted to leave of whatever the frustration of grief he was carrying as he used to do this every year, his heart didn't want to go as Anji said.
