During the Ani-Jhanak argument, when Jhanak threw Ani’s proposal back at him about wanting to settle down with her, Arshi was smiling or smirking. While her reaction shows smugness or satisfaction with how the plan to trap Jhanak is playing out, it’s interesting that there wasn’t even a hint of anger at learning Ani had in fact proposed to Jhanak. While she’s fully aware of what Ani wants, the proposal didn’t seem to bother her at all. Instead, she appeared to be enjoying the public no-holds-barred lovers’ spat unfolding before her. And then, she quickly flipped back to being a "dignity queen" when Ani took off chasing Jhanak, questioning him, 'You’re asking Jhanak if she has no one in this world, and you’re doing this right in front of me?
Let me just say this… Arshi’s character is basically written without any consistency or if there is one consistent feature .. it is the sense of “ I won’t bear losing to Jhanak” triumphs over “!I want to win Ani or Ani is mine”
Case in point / one scene that was written very well that literally defined Arshi for me.. it was acted well too but I would say the scene was written in a way that it just needed placeholders to translate it. This is at the time the Avinash alliance has come up and Ani gets to know that the Jhanak has given the go ahead. Ani has a mini meltdown and shouts at Jhanak and later tells Arshi dum gutt raha and he wants to go out and they are at some place for coffee.. Arshi asks him upfront about his anger but when Ani prevaricates.. she simply says I don’t care to argue about this and that principally she can’t bear losing to her. What Ani’s feelings are for Jhanak has never been her concern. For her, it’s about Ani not having J if that makes any sense… not the best of character sketches buts that’s what it is
Arshi wasn’t even shown bothered when Ani said Jhanak was speaking the truth about the intimacy 😂😂😂 she was only concerned Ani shouldn’t go to Mumbai.
Basically she is a placeholder for want of a better word. Something had to provide the conflict for J not to accept the relationship and they had to create a character who will just stay put whatever be the reality…
I once read a post in this forum about some comparisons about a serial called Silsila.. I didn’t remember that serial as I had not watched it but it later struck me which was the serial the TM was referring to… I remembered watching a few episodes in passing. It’s always the perspective of the writer a love story is basically guided by…If I remember correctly in that serial, the cheating pair was feeling a some guilt about their coming together… and the two women were friends or something… My point is if a love story is being told, it is the writer’s basic duty to illustrate whose love the pov is championing…In that serial for the short time I watched there wasn’t a compelling angle and I don’t even remember too much about it but the point I am making is generally viewers react to the pov illustration… This story only follows Ani Jhanak’s story and Arshi has always felt like the interloper so much so that she behaves in that fashion too
