The curtains come down on the mega-auction
IPL Auction LIVE Updates: Rishabh Pant's INR 27 crore acquisition by LSG remains the biggest bid by some distance but the news that might leave anyone baffled, surprised, elated, puzzled, with a dose of existential crisis and all other kinds of emotions across the board would be the fact that a 13-year-old boy got picked for INR 1.10 crore. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has gone to Rajasthan Royals who do have a knack of giving young talent a stage to shine - think Ravindra Jadeja or Yashasvi Jaiswal, just off the top of the head.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the most expensive buy of the second day at INR 10.75 crore and he will be reunited with his longtime India teammate Virat Kohli at RCB. It is also the end of an era with David Warner going unsold. Having made his debut back in 2009, Warner has not featured in just one season since and that was in 2018 when he was serving a ban. It means that effectively, the 2025 season will be the first since the second edition of the IPL in which Warner won't be playing because he wasn't selected by any team. The same is the case for Kane Williamson. Any cheeky hopes of seeing James Anderson in the IPL, on the ground or on the bench, was dashed at the start of the accelerated auction process itself.
The teams are set, there might be some tweaks here forced by injuries but all in all, it is all done. Not just for next season, but for the next few seasons.
