I find their judging so strange. Especially Nadia hates the writer, I get it but why is the director and actors being judged based on the writing when the writing has a separate category to be judged? Shouldn’t actors be judged on acting?Originally posted by: hypnotoad

Some of the stuff that they criticized is fair but some things they didn’t get, I don’t understand how they couldn’t. Only the host seemed to get it, was it because he watches more like a casual viewer?

Divided on SH also. Hassan is more forgiving while Amina isn’t digging it. GL also mixed
Rabia on the other hand is going with the flow, however she thinks Bilal is very chalaak and manipulative with the way he got Sadaf appointed at his office. I thought I was the only one who thought it comes off as a bit predatory.
Performance wise even though I’m loving what Wahaj is doing yes there is some mismatch between script and Wahaj’s own interpretation of the character I feel. Hence so many interpretations and takes on his actions and thoughts.
It’s an issue with this show that the host keeps pointing out but the judges don’t listen - them rating acting based on how character is written not the performance.
Totally takes away the credibility for sure. A poorly written character can be amazingly performed as well. But they don’t see the difference and can’t separate the two.
About writing I’m in agreement with Nadia but I’m not completely turned off like she is. It’s just 4 episodes

Mukarram is very good friends with both Maya and Wahaj
But despite the bias I do think he’s pretty sensible most of the time while watching
I do agree with some stuff too but I think the fact that KRQ is an extreme and open misogynist is swaying people. Don’t most shows have elements of misogyny? Personally I also don’t take issue with dialogue that are in line with the character. It doesn’t make the statement true or right.Originally posted by: Stormborn01

You want to know what I find triggering more than any of this? It’s basically something that is universally accepted in every drama and that’s the woman moving into the husband’s family’s house after marriage and just fitting right into his lifestyle. The guy on the other hand doesn’t even have to leave his room. That might be my personal experience affecting me though. But I have to put that aside too or I could never watch any Pakistani drama and be able to enjoy it.

The thing is I wish I could separate the writing from the man - I do. It would help everyone SO much. But for that he has to make us forget that he’s the one writing this and dialogues like the Zeher saga - having all 4 women repeat it to a man - and the Hijra dialogue simply don’t let us forget that he’s the writer. There was a really bad line in really bad taste in Gentleman as well. It shocked me.
So you see, it’s a problem. If so many people are feeling this than of course he needs to stop using these click bait horrible lines. Nobody wants to remember it’s his show we are watching. We just care about the actors. But certain scenarios and lines don’t help. I think many have just reached their limit with him and are less tolerant now.
Yeah but I’ve heard him criticize too…he’s not a judge so it isn’t in-depth. He did it at Mein’s time too. Nadia drops Wahaj’s name all the time and she’s still criticizing so I don’t know if friendships are helping on this show 😂 Most of the actors and actresses have to work with the very people they are criticizing yet they still do it. Also I didn’t think Mukkarram was praising, more like pointing out the obvious.Originally posted by: Stormborn01

Who knows. Maybe they used to be friends and aren’t anymore? Nadia just name drops everyone who’s relevant these days. Can’t trust her
of course, sometimes it’s impossible to separate the artist from the art. I can’t do that sometimes so I just don’t bother watching. I can no longer listen to P. Diddy songs for example 🤢Originally posted by: Stormborn01

The Hijra line bugged me too. If it came from a character who is known to use crass language and it is it’s obvious that it was supposed to be in bad taste then I might have let it go. I don’t think that’s Hira’s character though. Zeher went on for too long too. Bilal’s lines were fine with me because they are in line with his character at this point in time.
So did you like Gentleman? If I’m not wrong, you were enjoying it right? I’m getting such mixed reactions on it so I can’t figure out if it’s worth watching. It will give me a feel for his recent writing. I have to be really motivated to watch something in the gangster genre.
