Every view generates revenue for the channel, so it makes sense to count them. Channels boast about views because they're tied to revenue. All the big channels always include teaser + OST views in their calculation. Therefore, it's the standard way.
I think it's unfair to disregard soaps with high view counts just because they have more episodes. Maintaining audience interest over many episodes is an achievement. Additionally, the production costs for soaps are much lower than those of primetime shows, meaning that producing 100 soap episodes might cost less than producing fewer episodes of a primetime show, resulting in higher revenue for the channel.
