Yes, in our community in the south we change name. It's a rasam in a marriage ceremony.

My grandmother, mother , chachi, mami everyone's name was changed.

But now a days we keep the same name as younger generation doesnt want to change their name & elders also agree for the same

I think the bond was never established properly especially after the replacement. The old ruhi had scenes with abhira that gave those familiar sisterly vibes be it the rock papers scissors or bringing cake for ruhi. Jeevika maanvi, pragya bulbul., swaragini, they all had that bond. The new ruhi came as grey shaded.
