Please remember SR wala Lakshman is NOT Lakshman ek alag hi character banaa dia hai unhone apna bas naam same rakha baaki kuch nai

The animated Hanuman movie showed it better and nicely too. They had Ahiravan disguise as Vibhishan (which is also how folklore depict this incident). He then enters Ram Lakshman's shivir and just disappears with them into the earth. Hanuman sees the actual Vibhishan in sometime and that's how they get to know about Ahiravan and patal. Yaha ka Vibhishan dhakkan hai he doesn't know anything
