How is Armaan illegitimate? Many times they said Madhav married Shivani before V so that makes Armaan the heir of Poddar’s ,he is the elder son of Madhav and that house. True... Armaan ( and Shivani) reminds Kaveri of her failure to control Madhav which would have really hurt her ego. So she raised Armaan in that house in complete leash / under her complete control just like a loyal worker fulfilling her wishes. I think this might be why she even allowed him to stay, her control over him in a way lessening the sense of failure she had wrt his mom.
