If you observe in that epi,
Ani does behas and asks for an apology for his "would-be-wife" but then when Madam Shrishti insults J and her mother on the road, his stance changes. For that matter even Arshi does not approve her mother and Bharat Mama.
He observed how J's demeanor changed from fighter to a scared little girl, that was the instant he wanted to take her in his arms and protect her.
They left her and as they drove by, Ani kept longingly looking at her. (Obviously we knew she is the FL)
On a different occasion he reminded J at her low point of that incident that she is a fighter and he was impressed.

Bold 1 - I don't give any importance to this dialogue bcoz it was one more manipulation by him to convince jhanak to come along with him. Dream sequence - Jhanak had sindoor and chooda , indicative of her wife status in Ani life not a third angle. Both clarified that they are hurt and why they hurt eo. Jhanak reason to hurt Ani was also clarified. Now ani knows why jhanak has been denying the marriage. This time instead of monologues they gave dream sequence which is actual truth of their life and rest is manipulation. The boy is manipulating at its peak now.
