Filmfare's biggest flaw, or let's say fraudside, lies in the questionable category of Best Actor/Actress Critics. It seems like their workaround for awarding the actual best actor without upsetting the popular choice for Best Actor. The Best Actor Critics should ideally be for someone whose performance was appreciated but didn't translate into box office success. However, they've often handed it to actors whose films performed well but weren't the actual popular choice. In 2015/16, they gave Best Actress Critics to Kangana for an all-time blockbuster, while the Popular Choice went to Deepika for Piku. If they really want to be fair, maybe they should consider scrapping the Best Actor Critics category altogether, just like the shady Best Actor in a Negative Role category they had before.

Alia winning for Rocky Rani will be a joke. She was so below average there. It was an all out RS film well supported by the ensemble. Why is Deepika nominated for Pathaan??

Dhak Dhak isn't even nominated!!!! It was literally one of the handful of watchable movies to come out last year.

I thought she would get a nomination for Jawan. I wasn't a fan of her performance in Pathaan but it would have shocked me if she wasn't nominated because they would want both her stardom represented plus the success of the movie. I agree with you about You-Know-Aloo. Most colorless Dharma heroine yet.

Vikrant Massey's nomination was the one I was worried about but I had a feeling he'd be snubbed in the popular category. With only 6 slots at most, the problem was that all the slots were filled up. SRK was definitely getting double nominations, Vicky was going to get the nomination for Sam Bahadur (even if he will likely win the Critics Award), Ranveer and Ranbir were surefire nominations, and so was Sunny Deol for his comeback. There wasn't enough room to represent them all and still feature Vikrant.

Why double nominations for Shahrukh? Dunki performance was so below average. He was good as the old man in Jawaan but does it deserve a nomination when we have Vikrant and Pankaj ? Ranbir and Ranveer deserved the nominations for their extraordinary performances despite their movies being questionable. Sunny Deol got snubbed for some of his best performances in the past but why now for this?

The ideal nominations would’ve been Ranveer, Ranbir, Vikrant, Vicky, Pankaj, Manoj and Shahrukh( just because Filmfare feels attached to him)

If they didn’t want to nominate an actor from a controversial movie, then what is Ranbir doing there? The fact is, there is no damn consistency there. They just do it as per their whim and fancy.

I’m with you here. Super disappointed and now I understand why aamir never given importance to Bollywood awards.
