I watched the show and even I have been surprised a lot of times.

I think it's because the director do not make these moments like "oh look! A hug" which dramatic music or slow-mo. It's just inserted in scenes where there are lots of stuffs going on.

Felt so, listening to the casts interview on the last episode.

I think it's also because the actors are very comfortable with eo. That's why they pull it off.

Kerala in general don't like the ideologies of the central so they won't care what the hyper nationalists thinks. If anything the more backlash the central shows the more malayalis will go and watch it in theatres smiley36 . It's anyway only gonna be watched by malayalis and people that are into Malayalam movies. Then it's not necessary that Mahira plays a malayali or even has to speak Malayalam.

Wamiqa did a malayalm movie as the female lead with not a single dialogue in Malayalam. She played a Punjabi and spoke only Punjabi, Hindi and English in the movie and the entire movie revolved around her. Malayalam movies don't butcher other cultures or languages like Hindi cinema. Jana gana mana is another movie with multiple languages used.

people in the comments of that Reddit sub are saying the malayam community wouldn’t care so maybe not . They are also saying the backlash will give the film more exposure so what do I know
