I don't think adults are exempt from peer pressure or the need to fit in. For example, many gay people make up heterosexual crushes when posed questions. Heck, I avoid naming female crushes depending on my company. Perhaps it is maladjustment. But a lot of it is self-preservation.

Many desis abroad do lie a lot or pretend to like things based on how it helps them assimilate in western communities. And depending on how open the community is the level of lies and pretenses varies. There's also probably hundreds of grown-ass Nolan bros in India who don't understand Nolan movies but pretend to love it because it makes them so sophisticated and intellectual.

@bold amuses me as a Swiftie. It's only the rise of Taylor Bros that makes this possible. Once upon a time, even white men would rather say they attended a Badshah concert rather than Taylor Swift. 😆

Oh, I have absolutely no need or intention to convince you that she was into Tupac as a teenager. While plausible, I am highly suspicious and doubt it is true.

What I am trying to convince you is that even grown well-adjusted immigrants sometimes fabricate things to fit in. Human beings have a desire to fit in. The ability to be comfortable with and embrace our whole selves can be a journey. Some get there young and right away, and some will never get there their entire lives. Some people are smarter to make their white lies believable and convincing. Others are not that sharp and will lack credibility coming off too much as a wannabe.

PC falls into the wannabe camp on many things. Once upon a time, I would have made fun of her for it. But I get why people do these things so try to avoid making fun of them for it.

Not only was that the peak of Tupac musically but his beef with Biggie, a NY legend, led to them hogging even prime time news in NY. I can totally see a teen from NY being infatuated with Tupac. And after his death in 1996, he ofcourse became sort of a myth.

PC is fake, especially that accent, but in this case she gets the benefit of the doubt.

She went to high school in NY, Indiana and Mass. She didn’t spend all her time in NYC. Tupac died in 1996. She was born in 1982, that makes her 13-14. She was at most in 9th grade by 1996. Math is not mathing
