Last Segment

2 hours.

Chahat checked her watch. It has been two hours since she was waiting for Nick in the music room. He would generally be here at this time, they met here everyday. Was he so angry that he didn’t even want to see her face?

Hearing the door open, she stood up from her seat. A smile crept on her lips seeing Nick.

“Where were you?”

She asked in concern.

"Why do you even care?"

He asked, annoyed.

"Do you actually care? Do you care if I win or lose? Do you care if I am worried, or if I am hurt? You don't, you don't care," Chahat knew he was angry.

"Why Chahat?" he continued but his eyes soften.

"Why don't you love me?"

She looked at him sadly. It broke her heart to see so much hurt in his eyes.

"I know I am not perfect, but Saheel doesn’t love you, you know that. And still you chose to ditch me for him.” Chahat could see the pain in his eyes.

"No.”

It was true she was once attracted to the idea of Saheel, but she didn't love him, she never loved him.

"No, Nick. I don't love him.”

"Then who do you love, Aryan? " Chahat looked shocked at his accusations.

"Have you lost it?" Chahat signed angrily. "You know what I love Aryan and I am in love with Saheel also, that is why I am here with you, trying to apologize to you, trying to sort things out and trying to tell you how important you are to me.”

Nick's eyes moisten as be tried to digest what she was trying to say.

“Aryan is my best friend. We both have always been for each other. He is important for me, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t care for you. I do. At that moment, I did what I felt was right. I am sorry I wasn’t there to cheer for you. But my good wishes were always there with you. Wishing the best for you."

“Do you love me, Chahat?”

“I don’t know. I need time. Are you ready to wait for me?”

“Always”

They both smiled at each other, reading honesty in other's eyes.

Saheel walked into the room the empty room and sighed heavily. In few hours, he was departing to Chennai. He was selected by his college to represent in the Business Youth Festival. He, along with few other students were going.

As he opened the cupboard, a small box rolled out. He bent down surprised and took the box in his hand.

Sorry with a sad face - the ribbon around the box.

Opening it, Saheel lifted the small bracelet charm out. It was a gift. An apology gift from Aryan.

Aryan smiled walking towards the hostel as he visualised Saheel's pleasure when he would discover the present he had hidden in their room. He could imagine his joyous cry. He didn’t want to miss that so he started walking faster.

As he reached the room, he saw Saheel packing his stuff.

“Are you going somewhere?”

Saheel looked over at him and then continued packing.

“Chennai.”

“Why?”

“Do now I have to give you reports about where I go, what I do and who I meet?”

Aryan knew he was angry. He thought he would apologize and Saheel would forgive him. But he was leaving. His heart ached at the thought of staying away from him.

“Saheel, I am sorry. I know I was being a jerk. I shouldn’t have reacted how I did. But you know I can’t stay without you. Don’t leave me, please.”

Saheel saw the pain in his eyes.

“Aryan, I understand but it works both ways, right? You have to understand this too, I can’t stop talking to other guys because I am in love with you.”

Aryan pulled him in a tight embrace.

“I promise, I would never react this way ever again. Please, don’t go.”

“I have to go,” Saheel said as he hugged him back. “It’s a matter of two days.”

“Two days?” Aryan looked at him confused.

“I am going for the Business youth festival. You forgot,” He chuckled.

“You scared me!” Aryan gently pushed him but couldn’t help the smile that crept on his lips.

“I can never leave you Aryan, not even in dreams.”

Both looked at each other as they smiled their hearts out.

Aryan and Chahat ran towards each other as soon as they spotted each other in her neighbourhood garden. They both breathed heavily as they looked at each other excitedly.

“How did it go?” both asked in unison.

“You first,” they again said together and burst out laughing.

Sitting on the swing, they both talked and shared their feelings with each other.

“Finally everything in falling on place Chahat,” Aryan said happily.

“Yes, finally. I can’t believe how far we have come. He have had our share or struggles, fights, friendships and..”

“And love-lives,” They both smiled. “Imagine, if we had got married for real!”

“Pleaseee! Don’t! I can’t even imagine,” Chahat shook her head.

“Thanks for everything, Chahat. For always being there for me.”

“Is your boyfriend teaching you manner?” Chahat grinned making him chuckle. “Stop it.”

“I am glad we have each other.”

“Me too.”

Chahat put her head on his shoulder and Aryan pulled her closer in his arms kissing her temple.

They looked towards the sky, mentally thanking the universe for sending the other in their life.
