Traditionally Bride and groom don't sit together during Nikaah. They sit in separate rooms or opposite eachother like in Meerasim wedding. Engagement me bhi they don't really sit together atleast not in my culture. These days people are sitting together and doing it but still.

Generally in the dramas, nikaah is done while they sit beside eachother when they are going for small intimate ceremonies. (I know nothing to do with BH and MK's engagement, just a general comment)
