IMO the problem began with zidd, meerab got into a marriage against her wish and this zidd has blinded her to not perceive the real kind nature of the person in her life. Her adamant nature never allowed to admit her genuine feelings which only created insecurity in murtasim, so it was a downward spiral of one after the other ever-since for them.

As MB said destiny's game can be cruel but accepting it would have made her life happiest.

Hence it's always important to count our blessings, because often they are disguised as something else.
