Chemistry is not about physical proximity (only). There are several ingredients needed to create chemistry in a short-form format like an ad or still image.
Why there is more sizzling chemistry in Maria B here than in this wedding shoot imo is due to differences in the following:
- Maria B ad shoot had better story-telling - it told a story about how the relationship between the two characters developed. As a result, the Yumhaj interactions had context, meaning and emotion which adds to the chemistry. In contrast, in the wedding shoot, I have no idea what story is being told about these two people or what these characters are like. I mean, in Maria B, I could even tell their personality quirks (he is shy she is not
). - Maria B ad shoot had better acting choices in terms of micro-expressions and micro-movements. These are essential elements of constructing chemistry and story-telling. The micro-expressions and micro-movements by Yumhaj in the Maria B ad were just ufff - we saw range and nuance and this really added a lot of depth and intimacy. It also made their interactions look very real which makes the chemistry shine. In the wedding shoot, in many shots (not all), the expressions and movements are very pose-y, typical, and by the number. If the poses here are same as what you have seen in your cousin's wedding shoot, it makes them look less special.
- Maria B had better direction and shot selection. It seems whoever directed/shot the wedding shoot did not watch TB and has no idea what made MeMu chemistry shine. Lots of frames in the wedding shoot had Yumhaj looking away from each other, one looks at the other but the other is looking away, side angles and wide shots where you do not see expressions clearly, etc. In Maria B ad, the director did more with less. The eye chemistry imo was utilized very well, there were enough close shots, and you could clearly see their expressions.
- I do still think there is an element of the wedding shoot being toned down - to keep things cute and sweet and not sensual and intimate. Based on deleted scenes and BTS from Maria B and Maha, we could tell that where the chemistry chemistri-fied too much, those scenes did not make it to final product. I have written on this before. Acting choices and direction choices may also have been affected to keep the tone sweet and soft.
