Yumna’s looks are all over the place in TB. i think I have figured my issue out with her makeup. Long post so pls do skip if you don’t care, obviously. I know many won’t agree here… but we are allowed to have different opinions.
In reality, she has gorgeous features like her eyes and eye shape. I noticed the scenes where I personally find her particularly caricature looking are when her eyebrows are drawn and filled in like big rectangular blocks, and her eye shape is detracted from with the over exaggerated iris contact lenses. Combined, they take away from her otherwise gorgeous eye features. I love the scenes where her eyebrows and contacts don’t take center stage - she looks extremely gorgeous in that gajra hand holding scene and episode 20 hand holding scene, for example. So so pretty. I liked her looks during the Valima as well… again, they didn’t overdo her eyebrows with that makeup. She can handle lots of makeup too, as we see from her shoots, but it has to be done strategically. Some of the scenes in TB, it looks like they have circled her face with white makeup and then pasted on felt eyebrows blocks 🤦♀️
I didn’t have much prior exposure to Yumna before TB. So when I initially saw TB, I didn’t really think she was that attractive. Then in some scenes, I was like, huhhh, this girl is pretty. Then when I joined insta and saw her previous photos and her ad shoots, I was like, wait just a minute here. This girl is legitimately beautiful. What the heck are they doing to her in TB?!!! She often looks like a different person.
When people are saying she looks old, I suspect that some of it is also just their interpretation of bad makeup compared to her normal looks they are used to. She looks sooo gorgeous in her photo shoots and regularly when she does eyeliner, simple mascara, no overdrawn eyebrows etc. Even in the Maria B shoot, it was super heavy makeup, but they accentuated the shape of her eyes which made it work.
(Haha… I’m discussing with makeup artist sister 😂 and she is just horrified and confused by some of the makeup here. )
And Yumna may not care in general about her looks, but she did care to look pretty in TB. In fact, she specifically said she wanted to look pretty for her fans with this commercial show. So, it is VERY ironic and unfortunate that a good chunk of people are finding her makeup to be terribly off in many TB scenes.
Lesson: Don’t do tamasha with your eyebrows! If you’re going to wear contact lenses, make sure they don’t ruin the essence of your eyes!
