A day has 24 hours, and in those hours and seconds we feel infinite emotions, good and bad and one single emotion or thought does not define us. Please give the character a chance some time to process what he has heard. He is human and time never stops which means anything can happen.

No character is supposed to be perfect in any story, especially the good guys who have to follow a character arc, that is the whole point of any drama/entertainment otherwise what are we all doing here.
