Having had difficulties to get good grades in school in English and French (I vehemently disliked the teachers...and they disliked me...), I started to read romance novels (Georgette Heyer) in English and adventure-romance novels in French (Le Mouron Rouge novels) which supported my love for those languages. Although my grades got a bit better, I did it for me, not for the teacher(s).

Reading books in English, French and German (and a certain time also in Spanish) still gives me joy.

I would have liked to learn to understand and speak Hindi ...latter I did a bit during my ten weeks 'immersion-time' in Mumbai, but here at home, the day-to-day life somehow has consumed my motivation.

Oh yes she lied and yes she did lighten her skin.

And what kind of work did she do during her 20s to tan her so bad? Dancing in Switzerland? Shooting in London? That tanned her? 🤣🤣🤣

I worked at a theme park part time when I was a student , under sun and I got not only badly tanned & but developed a rare UV allergy which would give me rash & redness all over exposed skin.

But still at most I got 2 shades darker for 2 months of summer but Kajol is at least 5 shades lighter now than she used to be during her first 25-30 years of life.

The lies geez 😒😒😒

I would not call someone well read just because one read Mills and Boons or 50 shades.

Or read every issue of Champak, Sarita, Manor Kahaniyan, Vanita, Tinkle, Amar Chitra Katha, Raj comics.

Yes they read. But cannot be called widely read or well read.

Just as visiting relatives' houses each vacation does not mean you are well travelled or widely travelled.

Georgette Heyer is one of my mom's favorite authors. She says she likes the humor and style of her regency romances. She's always looking for new books to read. Would someone who likes GH be into Bridgerton?

Firstly, Kajol never claimed to be well-read. She claimed to be a voracious reader. Voracious means consuming in great quantities. So someone who reads many Mills and Boons qualifies as a voracious reader.

I find it highly judgmental to look down on anyone based on the books they read. Well read, in my mind, is some ivory tower bullshit that some people with good command of English use to look down on others who may not be as proficient in English. I was one of them until people rightly put me in my place.

The act of reading itself has many benefits. It doesn't matter whether you are reading Green Eggs and Ham (a superior piece of literature, IMO) or A Brief History of Time. If you're reading means, you are stimulating your brain, improving your comprehension, increasing your understanding of others, and keeping dementia away.

Romance novels may seem trashy and meaningless, but data shows that even romance novels also increase empathy, improve communication, and help people set boundaries and expectations in relationships. The putting down of romance novels as meaningless has sexist roots where male intellectuals tried to deride the pursuits of women as unworthy. There is evidence that shows consuming romance novels can reduce misogyny and toxic masculinity in men.

Comic books are also derided as childish and frivolous, but comic books have great cultural significance. They have a long history of presenting complex, radical ideas and shifting societal paradigms. Even the Ivies have classes on comic books and their relevance and importance to society. Comics contextualized war for young readers and helped make readers learn around them. They have presented metaphors for women's liberation, civil rights, and LGBTQ rights. They provide a blended medium so that even those with learning disabilities like dyslexia can enjoy reading with the aid of pictures.

Sure, 50 Shades is trashy. I hate the book because the writing is awful and paints a completely lopsided and toxic portrayal of BDSM. But please don't disparage people for their reading interests. Shaming readers won't change anyone's reading habits. Engage and encourage readers. You'll be surprised at how much even a child can teach you about a book they read. And the positive exchange of ideas is what will help us push and expand each other's horizons.

Yeah. Very well read indeed

Our dear self proclaimed intelligence ki muraaat Kajol also confidently stated that AIDS is comparable to common cold and curable. Delusion ki har intehaaa crossed thanks to her Mills and Boon addiction
