The whole track that led to the 5 yr leap was actually one of the best tracks of the show and I'm going to defend it with my non-insured fingers😆 but the entire track was really well done because it was highlighting something that's so often not even acknowledged in our society. Men base their self esteem and ability to provide for and take care of their families on their contribution to society. That entire track led up to Kartik being put down, ridiculed, rejected, his designs weren't good enough, he wasn't a good enough business man, he wasn't 'providing' for his family as he should've, all of that led to him being unable to save Naira from the goons -- something Mihir eventually did -- this is where the last remnants of his self esteem took a hit and he doubted his ability to even be there for Naira. In his mind the other guy was everything he wasn't, Naira's idol, the perfect man, the 'alpha arnav singh raizada kinda guy' of the world and there was no way Naira could still love him after he even failed to do something as basic as protect her. He started self-loathing and hating himself but hid it all from her. The guy's gf and his own dadi worsened the situation. But even at his lowest that entire scene where he completely utterly loses himself and hits his worst point he's actually on his knees begging crying shaking and clutching Naira and going like please don't leave me idc. The second he actually voices his worst fears tho is the second he realizes what he's done and how that actually can never be true because that's not who Naira is. It's also the second he loses her and his redemption -- he tries to off himself, traps himself in a dark room and punishes himself for five long years -- is really good.Originally posted by: firewings_diya

This is where they lost the plot with Abhira's leap. There's NO REASON why abhimanyu said some of the stuff he said! They could've simply shown that Abhimanyu -- seeing how badly Manjiri's health was deteriorating -- decides even tho he loves Akshu like mad, he needs to leave her. Not in anger or disgust but in simple resignation to his fate. He could've been shown lifeless and in regret and his redemption could've officially been the fact that when they met again he stood up against Manjiri from the word go for her and slowly steadily won her back.
This can still happen tho. They never actually got a falling in love phase. They've got some really good conflict right now. His redemption will still be prioritizing her over his mother, his family even when the worst of her -- the parts of her he hates so much -- resurface again. But that's a personal thing I want to see. 😆
