OMG Thank you! I thought it was just me who thought these terms were being used too much and in inappropriate situations. However, I thought it might just be something different from a cultural perspective. I had never heard of the words toxic and cringe so pervasively, and being used to describe shows and their characters before, so it was a bit of an adjustment hearing all of this in the TB PTV/ITV world. In my world, toxic is used very deliberately and sparingly, and mostly used to refer to a “situation” or “atmosphere” and rarely to a person unless they are certified pathological toxic personalities. In that respect, Shamsher for KTK definitely had a toxic personality, and that type of character I would agree with. For others, it was not the right word.
And cringe…well it’s usually a word used by teenagers and kids to describe a gross creepy person who physically “disgusts” you. I was confused about why Fushia deemed some of M&M’s bed scenes as almost cringe, for example. Like, to me, there’s nothing cringe about the situation of two married folks getting close or intimate, and there certainly is nothing physically gross about the characters themselves. There is A LOT of difference in word connotations and even cultural nuances I am learning about through this TB fangirling experience, which is also new to me! Wah wah…what an educational experience 😆!
If I tell you I am done with these two words and it makes me want to roll my eyes out loud, every time I see genz kids drop these words for anything they dislike / disagree with or when they do not know what part of vocabulary should they put to use when they see a character / actor / person not in line with the high moral grounds they have set (which again are hypocritical)
Rather open books than pick up some of these internet lingos which are getting 'orthodox' pretty faster because of their inaccuracies.
You would expect better use of words from these reviewers like Fuchsia than your average twitterati sulking gang.
'overrated' 'underrated' are another pests.
