You know that people watch the stock market and business news closely right? When you see that the stock market has crashed, and a certain influential well-known bank is not doing well and it is on the verge of taking a loan, it makes you lose trust in other similar firms too, and you try to sell off the stocks before you make any significant losses. Just fear in the mind is enough to make any other company's stocks also to fall on the indexes. It is not illegal/unethical/market manipulation, as anyone predicting is not directly doing it with the intention to influence the audience, it just happens automatically as a consequence of the MNCs and their business decisions. Even if the finance professionals instruct them to maybe wait on it, the customer takes the ultimate call about their portfolios.
