In the prayer scene when he is staring at her and she stares back, he realizes something and is take aback he looks away stunned he just realized something, for me this is the origin of his feelings for her.

He was dreading the state Meerab was in. And in his mind, he did not appreciate anyone who put her in this state at that moment, be it Waqas or Anwer. It was more like, girl, stop crying, we have a home back in Hyderabad, and I freaking own that. You don't have to sit down at someone's doorsteps begging them for acceptance and answers.

It is that moment where he took her under his protection 😆 and she accepted it. She was left with barely other choice. A part of me would think, she should not have returned and instead tried to go to some friend's place or something, but then, with the truth out, she wasn't just any Meerab, she belonged to the Khan's and I doubt they would have allowed her to go anywhere but the haveli.

That prayer scene is where his eyes do not leave her, when she is praying in that distraught state and he cannot help but empathize. In that moment, nothing else but 'yeh jo chaahe isse mil jaaye' comes out of his heart
